Wayne Rooney Joins Mark Goldbridge on New United Show
Wayne Rooney is stepping into a new role at Manchester United – not in the dugout or on the pitch, but behind a microphone.
The club’s all-time leading scorer will co-host a new United-focused show this season alongside influencer Mark Goldbridge, one of the most polarising and powerful fan voices on YouTube. The programme, titled Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, will sit under Gary Neville’s rapidly expanding Overlap network.
Rooney, Goldbridge and Neville’s new axis
Neville moved early this year to bring Goldbridge into his media stable, buying The United Stand and That's Football in April for an undisclosed seven‑figure fee. It was a significant moment: the former Manchester United and England defender effectively absorbed one of the biggest fan-led football platforms on the internet.
Goldbridge – real name Brent di Cesare – brings serious numbers. Across his two YouTube channels he has more than 3.8 million followers, built on live watchalongs, instant reactions and the kind of unfiltered opinions that regularly go viral. His rants and celebrations are shared, clipped, mocked and memed, but they are watched.
Now Rooney is walking straight into that world.
Already a regular voice on the Overlap’s Stick to Football show, the former United and England captain will front this new United-only spin-off with Goldbridge. The chemistry between a club legend and a fan-channel firebrand will be one of the most closely watched experiments in football media this season.
Disney+ deal takes fan media mainstream
This isn’t just a YouTube play. The Overlap has signed a distribution deal with Disney+ that will put both of its flagship football shows on a global streaming platform.
Disney+ will carry 50 episodes of Stick to United and 40 episodes of Stick to Football across the season, a serious volume that underlines how confident Neville’s team is in the format and in the pulling power of names like Rooney.
Neville, who co-founded The Overlap in 2021 and now co-chairs the company, framed the agreement simply: the partnership, he said, “expands our reach without compromising our identity”. Since launch, The Overlap has already pushed beyond football into cricket and rugby. Now it is stepping onto one of the biggest streaming stages.
From critic of fan TV to owner of it
Neville’s move into the fan-media space comes with a twist of irony.
Back in 2017, he publicly attacked ArsenalFanTV – now AFTV – calling it “embarrassing” after supporters on the channel tore into Arsene Wenger following a 3-1 defeat by Chelsea. His comments triggered a Twitter row with the platform, and he later appeared in an interview on the channel to explain his stance.
Seven years on, Neville owns two of the most influential fan channels in English football and is building prime-time shows around them. The ecosystem he once criticised now sits at the heart of his media strategy.
Rooney’s growing broadcast portfolio
For Rooney, this is another step in a media career that is quietly filling up.
The Wayne Rooney Show will return to BBC platforms this season, keeping him in front of a mainstream audience, while he continues his punditry work on Match of the Day. Now he adds a fan-facing, United-only show that will live both online and on Disney+.
From Old Trafford’s dressing room to YouTube studios and global streaming platforms, Rooney’s voice is becoming one of the most regular in the modern Manchester United conversation. The question now is how that voice will sound when it sits across from Mark Goldbridge, with millions of fans ready to judge every word.
