Wayne Rooney Joins Mark Goldbridge for New Manchester United Show

Wayne Rooney is stepping into a new role this season – as the face of a Manchester United-dedicated show alongside one of the internet’s loudest United voices, Mark Goldbridge.

The former United and England captain will co-host a new programme titled Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, a spin-off born from the rapid expansion of Gary Neville’s media empire, The Overlap.

Rooney, Goldbridge and the United echo chamber

Goldbridge, real name Brent Di Cesare, has built a vast online following on YouTube with The United Stand and That's Football, amassing more than 3.8 million followers across the two channels. His clips regularly tear through social media – wild reactions, sharp rants, and divisive takes that split opinion but always draw attention.

Those channels are now under Neville’s umbrella. Earlier this year, the former Manchester United defender bought Goldbridge’s platforms for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, bringing them into The Overlap network he founded in 2021. What began as a football-focused project has already stretched into cricket and rugby. Now it’s tightening its grip on the club-fan media space around Old Trafford.

Rooney is already a familiar face on The Overlap as a regular pundit on Stick to Football. The new show will push him closer to the fan-led world Goldbridge dominates, pairing a club legend with a creator who built his name by speaking for – and often shouting with – the online fanbase.

Disney+ deal powers new shows

The new series arrives as part of a major distribution agreement with Disney+. Under the deal, Disney+ will carry 50 episodes of Stick to United and 40 episodes of Stick to Football this season, giving The Overlap a heavyweight streaming partner and a global shop window.

Neville has been clear about what the tie-up means for his company, saying the partnership "expands our reach without compromising our identity". The aim is obvious: take the raw, fan-driven energy of YouTube, add recognisable broadcast names, and push it into mainstream streaming territory.

From critic of fan TV to owner of fan channels

Neville’s move into the fan-media space is striking given his past comments. He famously took aim at ArsenalFanTV in 2017, calling it "embarrassing" after fans on the channel tore into Arsene Wenger following a 3-1 defeat by Chelsea. The criticism sparked a public spat on Twitter and eventually led to Neville appearing on the channel to explain his stance.

Seven years on, he now owns one of the biggest club-specific fan platforms in the game. Goldbridge’s shows, once on the outside of traditional media, now sit at the heart of Neville’s network, with Rooney about to front a flagship Manchester United show alongside him.

Rooney’s media portfolio grows

This new project will not be Rooney’s only presence on screen. The Wayne Rooney Show is set to return to BBC platforms this season, while he continues his punditry duties on Match of the Day.

From club legend on the pitch to central figure in United’s modern media landscape, Rooney is now stepping into a different kind of spotlight – one shared with a fanbase that has never been louder, and a network that clearly has no intention of slowing down.
