Valencia Targeting Harvey Elliott for Summer Move

Valencia are preparing one of the more intriguing moves of the summer, and they’ve set their sights firmly on Anfield.

The Spanish club have made Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott their priority target to sharpen Carlos Corberán’s attack, with the England international having slipped down the pecking order under Andoni Iraola.

According to journalist Matteo Moretto, negotiations between Valencia, Liverpool and the player are already under way, with all sides pushing to close a loan deal quickly. Reports indicate Elliott has told Iraola directly that he wants to leave Anfield for Mestalla, and there is growing confidence that an agreement can be struck.

Corberán has taken a hands-on approach. As reported by Spanish newspaper Marca, the Valencia coach contacted the 23-year-old personally to sell him on the project. The conversation landed well. Elliott is described as being excited by the chance to test himself in La Liga and wear the Valencia shirt, while the club hierarchy see him as a creative fulcrum: a midfielder who can break lines, carry the ball with purpose and add goals from deep.

Valencia believe that profile has been missing. Elliott, they feel, can be the one to unpick tight defences.

His career, though, has stalled over the past year. Last season he joined Aston Villa on loan but managed only nine appearances in all competitions. The number mattered. A clause in the agreement meant Villa would have been obliged to buy him permanently for £35 million if he had reached 10 games. Unai Emery, then in charge at Villa Park, later admitted that the looming trigger and the lack of minutes weighed heavily on the player before he returned to Liverpool this summer.

The contrast with his Liverpool body of work is stark. Since arriving from Fulham in 2019, Elliott has played 149 times for the club and was a central figure in Jürgen Klopp’s farewell campaign, featuring in 53 matches across competitions. He looked embedded in Liverpool’s future.

Then the bench arrived. And stayed.

Despite that impressive involvement under Klopp, Elliott has slipped out of favour first with Arne Slot and now with Iraola. The clearest sign came in Liverpool’s latest squad to face Newcastle, where his name was missing entirely. The signal from the dugout was unmistakable: other options now sit ahead of him.

Valencia are ready to offer a way out – and a fresh stage – if the three-way negotiation keeps moving in the same direction.
