Tyrell Malacia Joins FC Cincinnati on Free Transfer
FC Cincinnati have moved to add top-level experience to their back line, signing former Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old Netherlands international arrives after his contract with United expired at the end of last season, ending a two-year spell in England that was heavily disrupted by injury. He had joined the 20-time English champions from Feyenoord in 2022 and went on to make 50 appearances in all competitions.
Malacia has signed a deal with Cincinnati that runs until next June, with an option to extend through the 2027-28 season, giving the MLS side flexibility as they shape their squad around him.
FC Cincinnati general manager Chris Albright made no secret of the club’s enthusiasm at landing a defender with Champions League and Premier League pedigree.
"We are excited to add a player of Tyrell's experience," Albright said. "He's played at the highest levels of the game and understands the demands of competing in those environments.
"His quality on the ball, defensive instincts, and team-first mentality is a welcome addition to the group and we're happy to have him in Cincinnati."
For Malacia, it is a reset in a new league and a fresh chance to turn that European experience into a driving force for a club with growing ambitions.
