Troy Parrott Shines in Real Betis Victory Over Getafe

Troy Parrott’s touch of class lit up Seville on Thursday night as Real Betis edged past Getafe to climb into the thick of the La Liga title race.

Betis ground out a 1-0 win at the Benito Villamarin, their fifth victory of the campaign, a result that lifts them to third in the table and to within three points of leaders Barcelona after six rounds.

Parrott, left on the bench and unused in Monday’s win away to Villarreal, responded with exactly the kind of performance every manager wants from a frustrated forward. He was sharp, direct, and constantly looking for a way to break the game open.

The breakthrough finally came just before half-time. Drifting into space and spotting the run, the Republic of Ireland striker slipped a slick, unselfish pass into the path of Abde Ezzalzouli. The winger did the rest, finishing what proved to be the only goal of the night, but the move bore Parrott’s fingerprints.

It might have been his name on the scoresheet earlier. Twice he went close before the interval – first with an audacious effort from the centre circle that tested Getafe’s alertness, then with a more conventional chance inside the box that had the home crowd on their feet.

Betis managed the second half with the control of a side starting to believe in themselves, protecting their lead and their position near the summit.

Next up is a trip to Deportivo de A Coruna on Sunday evening (5.30pm Irish time), their final domestic outing before a month-long international break.

For Parrott, it’s another chance to carry this club form into Ireland’s UEFA Nations League push, with his confidence – and his influence – clearly on the rise.
