Transfer Updates: Coventry Eyes Former Man Utd Star, Crystal Palace Bids for £42.9m Midfielder
Coventry City have reportedly made an approach to sign Angel Gomes, who previously played for Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 25-year-old recently returned to his parent club, Marseille, after a goalless and assist-less run of 13 matches at Wolves across all competitions.
During his time at Wolves, Gomes started seven Premier League games but could not prevent their relegation to the Championship. Wolves chose not to activate their £6m purchase option. Now, Coventry may offer Gomes a chance to return to top-tier football, with reports from L'Equipe via SportWitness indicating the club has expressed interest in signing him.
Gomes remains under contract with Marseille for two more seasons. The French club is open to letting him leave if a suitable proposal arrives. Since joining Marseille on a free transfer from Lille last summer, Gomes has netted four goals in 20 appearances.
Newcastle United’s Joe Willock Transfer Standoff
Newcastle United face challenges offloading midfielder Joe Willock. The former Arsenal academy player is entering the final year of his contract under manager Matthias Jaissle. Despite Newcastle losing Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali this summer, they still want around £19.7m to sell Willock.
Potential buyer Besiktas have set a maximum bid near £11.2m, with the Turkish club's limit reported as £12.9m, causing a gap between asking price and offers. The Magpies are currently blocking Willock’s move, which might force them into either accepting a lower fee or risking losing him for free next year.
Willock has contributed 19 goals and 11 assists in 182 appearances for Newcastle. Meanwhile, the club is pursuing Marseille's Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to strengthen midfield.
Niclas Fullkrug’s Move to Venezia Falls Through
West Ham United striker Niclas Fullkrug finds himself priced out of a transfer. After a disappointing loan spell at AC Milan, where he scored only once in 20 games, the 33-year-old returned to London following West Ham’s drop from the Premier League.
Fullkrug was expected to join Italian side Venezia, but talks broke down as West Ham’s financial demands proved too steep. German outlet SportBild reports the deal has collapsed. At present, Fullkrug is training individually while seeking a new club. Since arriving from Borussia Dortmund for £27m in 2024, he has managed just three goals in 29 appearances for West Ham.
Crystal Palace Advances in Race for Lamine Camara
Crystal Palace appear to be making headway in signing Lamine Camara from Monaco, potentially beating Nottingham Forest to the punch. The 22-year-old midfielder has drawn interest from Manchester United and Liverpool in recent months, although neither Premier League giant has firmed up any offers.
United have reinforced midfield with Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, while Liverpool focus on Paris Saint-Germain attacker Bradley Barcola. This leaves room for clubs like Palace to step in.
According to FootMercato, Palace have made a "concrete offer" for Camara, whose valuation by Monaco stands at £42.9m (€50m). Negotiations are expected to be lengthy. Camara is contracted with Monaco until 2029, and the club faces pressure to make further sales after transferring Maghnes Akliouche to PSG.
