Tottenham's Exciting Signings: Savio and Marmoush
Roberto De Zerbi could barely hide his excitement. Tottenham, already the Premier League’s biggest spenders of the summer, have just added what he called two “bomba” signings in Savio and Omar Marmoush – and he’s still eyeing one more piece before the window slams shut on Tuesday night.
Spurs go all‑in with Savio and Marmoush
This week brought a double deal with Manchester City that underlined just how aggressively Spurs are backing their new head coach. Long-term target Savio arrived in an £85million package, while Marmoush joined on a season-long loan that includes an obligation to buy.
Factor in the add-ons and Marmoush’s fee could eventually climb to £60m. That pushes Tottenham’s summer outlay beyond £350m, a staggering figure even in a league accustomed to excess.
De Zerbi, speaking before Newcastle’s visit to north London on Saturday, didn’t try to play it down.
“I think Savio and Marmoush are bomba,” he said. “I don’t know what name or how you can call them but players of a high level, for sure. I didn’t expect one transfer market and one window like we have done.”
The spending may not be over. De Zerbi admitted he is still chasing one more signing in a specific position before the 11pm deadline.
“I think we can do one player more and in one specific position,” he explained. “But yesterday we went for dinner with the owners, with Vinai (Venkatesham), with Johan (Lange) and with Enrico (Venturelli). We spoke about this, but we have all of us on the same page and there is a very good connection.”
Marmoush brings goals – and options
Marmoush becomes Tottenham’s eighth signing of a frantic summer and arrives with numbers that demand attention. He hit 37 goals in a prolific 18-month spell at Eintracht Frankfurt, then added 16 more at Manchester City.
Those figures give De Zerbi something he has been craving: another serious threat in the final third.
“A great signing for us. A great player, another great player and every one of us loves him as a player,” De Zerbi said. “We hope he can do what he is able. I think he can give more solutions in attack. We need players in attack capable to score goals, to play well with the ball also, a very fast player, great qualities and we are all happy.”
His role will be flexible. With James Maddison still short of full sharpness and Mohammed Kudus only just back from a long tendon injury, Marmoush can operate as both an attacker and an alternative No10.
“I think he can play as a central striker,” De Zerbi added. “He is a different number 10 than (Conor) Gallagher or Maddison, more of an attacker, but he is a player of big qualities. The most important thing is to have players with qualities.”
Even with that endorsement, Marmoush may have to wait for a starting berth against Newcastle, likely beginning his Spurs career from the bench.
Savio, Kudus and a reshaped Spurs attack
Savio, the headline signing of the week, is being lined up for his full debut on Saturday after completing his move from City. He drops into a squad that suddenly looks stacked with attacking talent.
New captain Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro, both involved in Wednesday’s 5-1 Carabao Cup demolition of Charlton, are pushing to start again. Kudus, out since January, is finally in contention to return to the matchday squad, adding yet another creative spark.
This is De Zerbi’s blueprint taking shape in real time: pace, goals, and multiple players who can hurt opponents in different ways.
Sarr’s future hangs in the balance
Not everyone at Spurs is guaranteed to be part of that future.
Pape Sarr remains available for selection, but his situation is delicately poised heading into the final days of the window.
“Pape? No, he’s good. We have to see in the last day of the transfer market what can happen with him,” De Zerbi said.
Then came the bluntest line of the day, a reminder of how he intends to run this dressing room.
“If you want to leave and you have not found the offer, it’s your problem, not my problem. I give respect, I kiss you, I hug you, but at the end have to stay calm inside the dressing room.”
Tottenham have spent big, moved fast and handed De Zerbi the kind of firepower managers usually only dream about. The question now is simple: with Savio and Marmoush on board and one more signing potentially to come, how far can this rebuilt Spurs side really go?
