Tottenham Nears £60m Deal for Marmoush as Spending Exceeds £300m

Tottenham are on the verge of landing Omar Marmoush in a big-money move from Manchester City, as the club’s lavish summer rebuild gathers even more pace.

The Egyptian forward is due to undergo a medical after Spurs and City agreed a loan with an obligation to buy. The numbers are heavyweight: an initial £50million, £5m in guaranteed add-ons and another £5m in performance-related bonuses.

Marmoush is expected to sign a four-year contract in north London, with an option for an extra 12 months, locking him in as a long-term piece of Roberto De Zerbi’s attacking puzzle.

Crucially for Spurs, the deal is completely separate from the £85m signing of Savio, Marmoush’s former City team-mate, who arrived on Tuesday. Savio is available to make his debut immediately, with De Zerbi able to call on him for tonight’s Carabao Cup second-round tie at home to Charlton.

There will be no windfall for Eintracht Frankfurt, despite some reports suggesting a sell-on clause. No such fee is due to the Bundesliga club.

Marmoush arrives with a point to prove. He struggled to nail down a regular starting spot at City last season, making only eight Premier League starts and slipping down the pecking order after a bright beginning to life in England. Across all competitions he still managed eight goals in 36 appearances, enough to convince Spurs that there is a high ceiling to unlock.

He only joined City in January 2025, but the early momentum faded quickly as opportunities dried up. Tottenham are betting that De Zerbi’s system, and a more defined role, will drag the best out of him.

Inside the club, there is no doubt about his ambition. Marmoush is understood to be arriving with the belief that he can force his way past Richarlison and Dominic Solanke to become De Zerbi’s first-choice centre-forward.

For Spurs, this is yet another statement in a window of relentless spending. With Marmoush set to follow Savio through the door, the club’s outlay this summer has already surged past £300m, bolstered by the arrivals of Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke.

De Zerbi now has depth, variety and serious competition in almost every area of the pitch. The question is no longer whether Tottenham are rebuilding.

It’s how far this new-look side can go once the real games start to bite.
