Tottenham Hijacks Mudryk Move from Leeds United
Tottenham have surged ahead of Leeds United in the race for Mykhailo Mudryk, with the Chelsea winger set to undergo a medical in north London before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
Leeds had been strongly linked with the Ukrainian, with a wide forward high on Daniel Farke’s wish list as he looks to sharpen his attack before the window shuts. The club remain in the market for an attacker, but it will not be Mudryk. The deal has slipped away.
Spurs strike late
Tottenham moved decisively to jump the queue, stepping in to hijack Leeds’ pursuit and thrash out terms with Chelsea and the player. According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Spurs have agreed a paid loan with an option to buy set at around £75 million.
On X, Romano wrote: “BREAKING: Mykhaylo Mudryk to Tottenham, here we go! Everything agreed also on personal terms. Mudryk joins #THFC on paid loan and also understand there will be a buy option clause not mandatory in the agreement. The Ukrainian will re-join De Zerbi.”
The option is not obligatory, giving Spurs flexibility if Mudryk fails to ignite in north London after a turbulent spell in his career.
Tottenham’s spending has already been eye-catching this summer. Roberto de Zerbi’s squad has been heavily reinforced with a string of high-profile arrivals: Andy Robertson on a free from Liverpool, Marcos Senesi on a free from Bournemouth, Jan Paul van Hecke for £52m from Brighton, Martin Dubravka on a free from Burnley, Mateus Fernandes for £85m from West Ham, Sandro Tonali for £92.5m from Newcastle United, Savinho for £75m from Manchester City and Omar Marmoush on loan from City.
Now Mudryk is poised to join that list, with centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo also set for a medical ahead of a move from Chelsea. Two more signings, both from across the capital, underline Spurs’ aggressive late-window push.
A career back from the brink
Mudryk’s move comes after a lengthy and bruising spell on the sidelines. The 25-year-old was suspended for four years in 2024 following a failed drug test that showed a low concentration of the banned substance meldonium.
He has not played since November of that year. Only at the end of last month was he cleared to return, his doping ban resolved after an appeal. Now, instead of Elland Road, his comeback stage looks set to be under the lights in north London.
Leeds left to rethink
For Leeds, the collapse of any Mudryk move reshapes the final hours of their window. Farke still wants more firepower out wide, and that intent will not go unnoticed by the players already in those positions.
Two Welsh wingers stand to gain from the failed chase. Harry Wilson, signed on a free from Fulham this summer, is pushing to nail down a place in the starting XI. On the opposite flank, Daniel James is trying to rebuild after an injury-ravaged 18 months that stalled his momentum.
They now have a clearer path, but no guarantees. Farke’s determination to add another attacker is a clear warning: last season’s 14th-place finish in the Premier League is not the standard Leeds are prepared to accept.
Wilfried Gnonto’s situation adds another layer. The Italian is expected to leave for Fiorentina, but only if Leeds can secure a replacement in time. Any outgoing move hinges on what the club can pull off in the final stretch of the window.
The clock is ticking towards 11pm. Mudryk is heading to Tottenham. Leeds still need a winger, still want to climb the table, and now have just hours to find someone else to carry that burden.
