Swansea City Proves Championship Contender Status with Dominant Win

Vitor Matos insists Swansea City’s blistering start to the season is proof they can go toe-to-toe with anyone in the Championship.

Swansea surged back up to second place – behind leaders West Ham only on goal difference – after a commanding 3-1 win over struggling Burnley on Saturday. It was exactly the reaction Matos wanted after their first league defeat of the campaign at Southampton in midweek.

Adam Idah, Moussa Yeo and Zan Vipotnik all hit the net as the Swans reasserted themselves, mixing control with a ruthless edge in front of goal.

The table says promotion contenders. Matos claims he is not looking.

After the game, the Swansea head coach insisted he did not know where his side currently sit in the standings, but he has no doubts about what this new-look squad can do in the division.

"I think we have a team who can compete against every team in the league," Matos said.

"That's what we want. When we can compete against everyone, we know that on that day, at that particular time, we can have a proper performance and beat any opponent.

"If that happens all the time, we don't know, but we will work our socks off for that."

For now, the numbers are simple: three goals, three points, and a growing sense that Swansea intend to stay in this promotion conversation.
