Sofie Lundgaard Joins Eintracht Frankfurt After Liverpool Exit

Sofie Lundgaard’s stop-start Liverpool story is over. Eintracht Frankfurt have moved in, and the Danish midfielder heads to the Frauen-Bundesliga on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old arrived at Liverpool in January 2023, a signing full of promise that never quite had the chance to breathe. She managed 42 appearances in red, a respectable tally on paper, but the numbers only tell part of it.

Two anterior cruciate ligament injuries ripped through her three-and-a-half-year spell, cutting into her rhythm and limiting her involvement just as she threatened to establish herself. Every time momentum started to build, her body betrayed her. Now she looks for a cleaner slate in Germany.

Frankfurt, one of the established names in the Frauen-Bundesliga, offer that reset. Lundgaard has already proved herself outside England with Fortuna Hjorring in Denmark; this next move keeps her in top-level European competition and hands her the chance to rebuild a career that has too often been spent in the treatment room rather than the centre of midfield.

Fatou Kanteh Transfer Update

While Lundgaard heads to Germany, another move involving a standout wide player has stalled before it even really began.

Birmingham City have seen a bid rejected for Sevilla and Gambia winger Fatou Kanteh, with the Spanish club making it clear they do not want to sell. The Women’s Super League side are understood to have offered around 100,000 Euros (£85,000), a figure that falls well short of Sevilla’s valuation.

The message from Spain is firm: Kanteh is worth more, and she is staying put.

At 29, Kanteh has spent her entire senior career in Liga F, building a strong reputation across several clubs. She has scored 12 goals in 63 matches for Sevilla, having previously turned out for Villarreal, Huelva and Logrono, and brings direct running and experience on the flank.

Birmingham are not expected to return with an improved offer. Their move has effectively hit a dead end, at least for now, leaving Kanteh to continue as a key part of Sevilla’s plans while the WSL club turn their attention elsewhere in a market that is getting sharper, pricier and far less forgiving.
