Sancho Evaluating Offers as Dortmund Eyes Free Agent

Jadon Sancho is back at a familiar crossroads, and this time he holds all the cards.

Six weeks on from the expiry of his Manchester United contract, the 26-year-old winger is a free agent, fielding interest from at home and abroad. Premier League clubs have put proposals on the table, but those close to the situation believe his preference is clear: a move outside England.

One name inevitably returns to the conversation. Borussia Dortmund. The club where Sancho made his name, the club where he has already played 158 times across two spells, are understood to be among those monitoring his situation. They know exactly what he can do in the Bundesliga. He knows exactly what kind of stage they can give him.

United paid £73m to bring him back from Dortmund in 2021, a marquee signing meant to spearhead a new era at Old Trafford. That version of the story never quite materialised.

Loans followed, and with them flashes of the player who once lit up German football.

Last season he was part of Unai Emery’s Aston Villa squad, featuring 39 times as Villa surged into the Champions League and lifted the Europa League. Sancho came off the bench late in the win over Freiburg, adding another appearance to a remarkable personal run: three European finals in three seasons.

The year before that, he spent the 2024-25 campaign at Chelsea, making 41 appearances in all competitions. That deal included an obligation to buy, a supposed long-term commitment. Instead, Chelsea chose to cut it short, paying a £5m penalty to send him back to Manchester United and resetting his future yet again.

Now there is no parent club to return to, no obligation clauses, no safety net. Just a talented winger, in his mid‑twenties, trying to pick the right stage for the next act of his career.

For the moment, the work continues far from the spotlight. Sancho has been training with non-league Flixton to keep his fitness sharp ahead of the new season, an elite-level talent putting in the miles on modest pitches while Europe’s clubs weigh up their moves.

He is said to favour a fresh start abroad, yet remains open to all options. Offers from England are there. Interest from the continent is real. Dortmund are lurking.

The only question now is where he chooses to restart the story.
