Safia Middleton-Patel Joins Watford on Loan for 2026-27 Season
Safia Middleton-Patel will spend the 2026-27 season on loan at Watford after Manchester United agreed a year-long deal for the Wales goalkeeper.
The move hands the 21-year-old a full campaign with the Hornets in Women's Super League 2, a step up in responsibility after a shorter spell at the club. She joined Watford for the second half of the 2023-24 season and did enough to convince them she was worth bringing back as a long-term option between the posts.
Middleton-Patel has been on the fringes at Manchester United but has already tasted big occasions. She made her senior debut for the Red Devils against Newcastle United in December 2024 and went on to feature three times under head coach Marc Skinner last season, including in United's Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford.
United underlined their interest in her development, saying in a statement: "We will be tracking Saf's progress closely and wish her the very best of luck."
Now comes the real test: a full season as a first-team goalkeeper, with Watford and Wales both watching closely.
