Roma Eyes Free Agents for Left-Side Reinforcement

Roma still have Atalanta in their sights, but at Trigoria the transfer market refuses to die.

The summer window closed without delivering the left-sided reinforcement Gian Piero Gasperini had asked for. So Roma have turned to the only shop still open: the free-agent aisle. Cautiously.

The line from the club is simple enough – they will move only if a genuine opportunity, one that fits the coach’s demands, lands on the table. No stopgaps just to make up the numbers.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, one name ticks plenty of boxes: Wilfried Zaha. The Ivorian winger came close to joining Roma back in 2023 and is now unattached after his latest spell, making him available on a free. The old flame could be rekindled without a transfer fee, if the conditions line up.

He is not alone on the shortlist. Krépin Diatta is also under consideration, the Senegal international now without a club after his last season at Monaco. A different profile, but another versatile option for the flank.

Then there is Raphael Guerreiro. At 32, the Portuguese left-sided specialist spent last season at Bayern Munich and would bring experience and quality to the role Roma never quite managed to fill in the window.

Three free agents, one vacant lane on the left, and a coach waiting. Roma’s next move will say plenty about how serious they are about giving Gasperini the tools to push this project up a level.
