Raphinha Dismisses Exit Rumors, Commits to Barcelona

The rumours can wait. Raphinha isn’t going anywhere.

After a summer spent under a cloud of speculation about his future, the Barcelona forward has drawn a clear line through any talk of an exit, making it plain he wants to stay at the club for years to come – and is already open to signing a new contract.

Elevated to first captain by new coach Hansi Flick this season, Raphinha has responded with the kind of form that turns debates about his future into a simple equation. He leads the scoring charts in Spain with nine goals, driving a Barcelona side that have exploded out of the blocks domestically.

That armband has done more than add a stripe to his shirt. It has sharpened his edge. The Brazilian has become the reference point in Flick’s attack, a player who now dictates games rather than just decorates them.

His current deal runs until the summer of 2028, a contract he originally viewed as a natural end point for his peak years. Sporting director Deco has already signalled that Barcelona want to go further, locking in a player who is quickly becoming the face of Flick’s project.

Raphinha is all ears.

"I renewed until 2028 with the idea that, by then, I would be 30 or 31 years old and I didn't know how I would manage," he told RAC1, reflecting on how he once saw that agreement as a finish line rather than a stepping stone.

The picture has changed. His body feels strong, his game looks sharper than ever, and the numbers back it up. That combination has forced him to rethink how long he can operate at the very top of European football.

Under Flick’s guidance, he feels settled and empowered. The system suits him, the responsibility fuels him, and the goals keep coming. Raphinha believes he can sustain this level for several more seasons and wants to repay the trust the club have placed in him by committing the rest of his career to Barcelona.

"But given how I've started the season, I understand that I have enough to last a few more years. So, yes, I would be happy to extend my contract a little and finish my career here without having to go anywhere else," he said, leaving little room for doubt about his intentions.

Barcelona have every reason to move quickly. His recent hat-trick against Racing Santander was a ruthless reminder of why the club are so determined to keep him. It wasn’t just the goals; it was the authority with which he led the line, the sense that this is now his team to carry.

The schedule offers no time to pause. On Saturday, Raphinha returns to La Liga duty as Barcelona travel to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan to face Sevilla, a ground that rarely offers visiting captains an easy night. He will arrive there as the league’s leading scorer, hunting goal number ten and the continuation of a blistering start.

Then comes the shift back to Europe. Barcelona are building towards a critical stretch in the UEFA Champions League, a competition where Raphinha has already left his mark this season with a brace in a commanding 5-1 win over Feyenoord.

The contract talks can wait for the boardroom. On the pitch, Raphinha is already playing like a man who has decided where his story should reach its final chapter – under the lights, in Barcelona colours.
