PSG Secures Mika Godts in €55m Deal with Ajax
Paris Saint-Germain have moved decisively in the market, reaching a verbal agreement with Ajax to sign winger Mika Godts in a package worth €55m (£46.9m).
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported on X that PSG have a verbal pact in place after sending a new official bid, though the paperwork has not yet been exchanged. Barring a late twist, Godts will join a rapidly reshaped frontline in Paris.
Godts and Ferran Torres reshape PSG attack
Godts is set to arrive alongside Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, with PSG pushing through a separate deal for the Spaniard. Two wide forwards, two sizeable investments, one clear message: Luis Enrique wants depth and variety in his attacking options.
The knock-on effect is obvious. With Godts and Torres coming in, Bradley Barcola’s future at the Parc des Princes looks increasingly uncertain. PSG’s stance is expected to soften as they look to trim what is suddenly a crowded forward line.
Luis Enrique and the club hierarchy now have the luxury of choice. They also have assets to sell.
Barcola talks with Liverpool intensify
Liverpool have been positioning themselves for exactly this moment. The club have held regular talks with PSG this week over Barcola, anticipating that the French champions would eventually press ahead with new attacking signings.
The price remains the sticking point. PSG’s ideal asking price stands at around £145m, a figure Liverpool are unwilling to meet. Internally, Liverpool value Barcola closer to £100m. The gap is significant, but with Godts and Torres on the way, the pressure to find a compromise grows by the day.
If PSG climb down from their initial demands and Liverpool edge up from their valuation, the middle ground is there. Whether either side blinks in time is the drama now.
There is also quiet admiration at Anfield for Ibrahim Mbaye, the 18-year-old talent emerging alongside Barcola, though any move there remains speculative rather than imminent.
Clock ticking for Liverpool
The timing is far from ideal for Liverpool. With a trip to Newcastle away in nine days, they have already missed the chance to give Barcola – or any other late arrival – a proper pre-season bedding-in period.
The schedule will not wait. Nor will the transfer window.
Liverpool’s recruitment team, led by Richard Hughes, know that if they can land Barcola, few will dwell on the fact they did not push for Godts or Torres earlier in the summer. The focus would swing instead to how quickly they can integrate a marquee signing into Arne Slot’s system before the window shuts in September.
PSG, meanwhile, look set to emerge from this flurry of deals with a refreshed, deeper attack and the financial muscle to reshape other areas of the squad. The only question now is how high a price they can still command for a player who suddenly looks less essential to their plans.
