Key Signing Each Premier League Club Needs Before Transfer Window Closes

The transfer window is rapidly closing, with less than a month left for Premier League clubs to finalize their squads. Despite the interruption of the World Cup, teams have been busy signing players ahead of the new season starting on August 21, but plenty of business remains before the deadline on September 1.

Every Premier League club has specific positions that need strengthening. Some gaps have grown wider due to recent departures, making fresh signings critical. Here’s a rundown of one key area each club should target in the final stretch.

Arsenal — Central Midfielder

While Arsenal’s chase for Vinícius Júnior has grabbed attention, reinforcing central midfield is more urgent. The team leaned too heavily on Declan Rice last season, draining his energy notably at the World Cup. Martín Zubimendi struggled in the latter half of last term, Myles Lewis-Skelly remains unproven, and Mikel Merino fits better as an impact sub. Offensive midfielders like Martin Ødegaard and Kai Havertz cover attacking roles well, but Arsenal needs a reliable box-to-box midfielder. Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle is their top target to share the load with Rice.

Aston Villa — Left Back

Lucas Digne looks set to return to PSG, leaving Aston Villa short on options at left back. Ian Maatsen is promising but not enough alone, especially with Champions League football demanding depth. Villa must add another dependable left back to compete effectively.

Bournemouth — Winger

Aside from Rayan, who faces interest from top European clubs and Saudi teams, Bournemouth lacks quality wingers. Ben Gannon-Doak, David Brooks, and Amine Adli don’t inspire confidence for manager Marco Rose. They lost Antoine Semenyo last winter and now have extra Europa League fixtures to manage, making a new winger a priority despite plans to bolster right back with Juanlu Sánchez.

Brentford — Left Back

Brentford’s left back options are thin and injury-prone. Rico Henry’s past injuries limit his reliability, and Keane Lewis-Potter isn’t a natural in the role. Brentford needs a more traditional and consistent left back to secure defensive stability.

Brighton & Hove Albion — Striker

After losing Danny Welbeck, Brighton urgently require a striker to replace his 13 Premier League goals from last season. Their current forwards are young and unproven at this level, and with added Conference League matches, a clinical goal scorer is vital.

Chelsea — Goalkeeper

Chelsea still haven’t signed a new goalkeeper despite activity elsewhere. Robert Sánchez improved but isn’t enough to lift the team where they want to be. The Blues need an elite shot-stopper, a move made harder by quiet rumors and uncertainty if Xabi Alonso trusts Sánchez or will promote Mike Penders.

Coventry City — Left Back

Coventry is close to securing goalkeeper Carl Rushworth permanently, after which they will turn focus to left back. Frank Lampard wants a seasoned Premier League defender to combat some of the league’s top wingers. A strong striker is also desired.

Crystal Palace — Center Back

Palace are critically short at center back following Marc Guéhi’s January departure and Maxence Lacroix’s move to Chelsea. Chris Richards, Chadi Riad, and Jaydee Canvot remain, but the squad lacks depth. A deal for Chrislain Matsima fell through, so one or two defenders are needed urgently.

Everton — Defensive Midfielder

Everton lost Idrissa Gana Gueye on a free transfer and, though they signed Hayden Hackney, lack a true defensive enforcer. While a striker could still be added, protecting the back four is a priority for David Moyes’ structured defense-first style.

Fulham — Winger

Fulham is short of wide players after losing Harry Wilson and Samuel Chukwueze. With Gonzalo García joining up front, new wide options are essential. Currently, Oscar Bobb and Kevin provide little impact, leaving Fulham vulnerable without pacey wingers.

Hull City — Winger

Hull's owner Acun Ilıcalı has promised multiple signings, including at least one winger. The Tigers lack star attacking options, and Leon Bailey from Aston Villa might arrive. They must improve their wide attacking players to survive in the Premier League.

Ipswich Town — Central Midfielder

Ipswich have recruited eight players but still need a central midfielder. Gary O’Neil looks close to signing Florentino Luís from Burnley but may seek additional midfield reinforcements, especially given current fitness concerns.
