Mohamed Salah Shines in Super Lig Debut for Trabzonspor

Mohamed Salah wasted no time announcing himself in the Super Lig.

On his first start for Trabzonspor, the former Liverpool star struck twice to deliver a 2-1 home win over Istanbul Basaksehir, his brace sealing all three points and igniting his new chapter in Turkey.

Salah, who signed a two-year deal at the start of August, had been eased in with a substitute appearance in last week’s 1-1 draw at Kasimpasa. This time he was in from the first whistle – and he needed only eight minutes to justify the decision.

Drifting into space and seizing his moment, he opened the scoring early, giving Trabzonspor exactly the jolt they had hoped his arrival would bring.

Basaksehir hit back. In the 19th minute, Eldor Shomurodov stepped up from the penalty spot and coolly levelled, briefly silencing the home crowd and testing Trabzonspor’s resolve.

The response came straight after the interval.

Just three minutes into the second half, Salah struck again, restoring Trabzonspor’s lead and tilting the contest decisively their way. From there, the hosts held firm, protecting the advantage his double had carved out.

Two goals, a first win of the league campaign with him in the XI, and an early statement from one of the Super Lig’s headline arrivals.

Trabzonspor now turn their attention to their next Super Lig fixture on August 31, when they face Amed SK – with Salah already looking like the man their season will revolve around.
