Missing Former QPR Midfielder Akos Buzsáky

Hungarian police are searching for former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Akos Buzsáky after the one-time Premier League player was reported missing more than a week ago.

Authorities officially launched the search on August 18, with police records confirming that efforts to locate the 44-year-old have been ongoing since then, as reported by The Sun.

Former QPR favourite missing

Buzsáky, who won caps for Hungary and became a familiar figure in English football during the late 2000s and early 2010s, has spent recent years far from the spotlight. After retiring, he moved into construction contracting and is understood to have been spending extended periods in Greece for work.

His father, Ákos Buzsáky Sr., said he was stunned to learn that police were involved when Hungarian outlet Blikk contacted him about the case. He revealed he had spoken to his son only days before the search began and had no idea he had been reported missing.

"I didn't know that the police were also looking for my son. He basically spends a lot of time in Greece, where he works as a construction contractor. He spent almost the entire last year there," Buzsáky Sr. told the publication.

Reports in Hungary say Buzsáky no longer lives with the mother of his two daughters. His own mother has also been trying to track him down in recent days and is believed to be the person who first alerted authorities and filed the missing person report.

From Plymouth and QPR to life after football

Buzsáky carved out a respected career in England, first making his name at Plymouth Argyle before moving to Queens Park Rangers. At Loftus Road he became a fans’ favourite, playing a key role as the club climbed back towards the top tier.

He featured for QPR in the Premier League during the 2011/12 season and scored twice in that campaign, a high point in a career that also included regular international duty with Hungary.

His final stop in English football came at Portsmouth in League One, where he wound down his playing days before retiring in 2013. From there, he stepped away from the game and into construction work, spending much of his time in Greece.

For now, the focus in Hungary is on finding any trace of the former midfielder, as family and police continue their search.
