Míchel’s Ajax Hits Cruising Speed in Title Charge

Ajax are starting to look like a team built in their manager’s image, and people in Spain have noticed. Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan sports daily, has been tracking the transformation in Amsterdam and now believes this Ajax side can launch a serious title charge.

On Wednesday, the paper went big with its verdict:

“Míchel’s Ajax have reached their cruising speed.”

For a squad still in the early stages of a new project, that is no small statement. Míchel has only been in the job a few months, yet Mundo Deportivo argues his team already plays with the cohesion of a group that has been together for years. Patterns are clear, roles look defined, and the football is starting to flow.

The latest evidence came in the 5-1 demolition of Willem II. Ajax dominated the ball, finishing with 70 per cent possession and unleashing 33 shots. They went in 2-0 up at half-time, but the intensity didn’t drop. The pressure stayed on, the attacks kept coming, and Willem II never escaped.

That performance wasn’t an isolated burst either. The Spanish paper zoomed out and highlighted Ajax’s last four league outings as the true measure of the shift. Four goals past Telstar. One against PSV. Five against Fortuna Sittard. Another five against Willem II.

Four games, 14 goals. A team that looks increasingly ruthless.

The only blemish in that run came in Eindhoven, a 1-3 defeat to PSV. Mundo Deportivo insists the scoreline flattered the home side and that Míchel’s men merited more from that match. Everywhere else, the numbers are as clean as the football: three wins, nine points, and a growing sense of momentum.

Amid all the attacking noise, one name also cuts through from the back line. Defender Youri Baas earns specific praise in the Spanish analysis for his strong performances at the heart of the Ajax defence, a steady presence underpinning the new, front-foot identity.

Goals at one end, authority at the other, and a coach whose ideas are finally biting. If this is only “cruising speed,” the rest of the league knows what might be coming next.
