Helpless for Bournemouth’s opener but kept his side alive with two big stops, spreading himself well to block Justin Kluivert’s skidding effort and reacting sharply to claw away Daniel Jebbison’s glanced header.
Rico Lewis – 5
Stepped inside from right-back to form an extra midfielder and did spring forward early on, drawing a save with a decent strike. After that his influence dipped, his passing grew loose and he was withdrawn before he could repair it.
Abdukodir Khusanov – 5
Got his angles wrong on Rayan in the build-up to the first goal, missed the challenge and never recovered his position as the move unfolded. A shaky afternoon that set the tone for Bournemouth’s threat in behind.
Ruben Dias – 5
Wearing the armband but exposed for the opener, misjudging a straightforward long ball over the top and allowing Bournemouth in. Organised those around him better as the game went on, yet that lapse lingered over his display.
Josko Gvardiol – 7
Caught in no man’s land for Bournemouth’s goal, neither tight to his man nor covering the space. Then, right when the points looked gone, he strode forward and buried a composed injury-time winner. Anonymous at one end, decisive at the other.
Marc Guehi – 6
Pushed into an improvised holding midfield role and looked like a centre-back learning on the job. Grew into it enough to arrive late and force home a crucial equaliser, but with Ayyoub Bouaddi on the way, this midfield experiment may be short-lived.
Elliot Anderson – 6
The club-record signing ran relentlessly, shutting down passing lanes and snapping into duels. Showed flashes of the energy and bite he brings, even if his attacking contribution stayed on the fringes.
Antoine Semenyo – 5
Lively in pre-season, subdued here. Offered the odd direct run but never really imposed himself on his full-back or the game’s rhythm.
Nico O’Reilly – 5
Given the keys in the No 10 role but created little of substance. A few neat touches, not enough incision, and his number went up on the hour.
Phil Foden – 5
Started sharply, demanding the ball and producing a gorgeous flick to send Lewis through early on. As the match grew scrappier, his influence drained away and he drifted out of the contest before being replaced.
Erling Haaland – 5
New haircut, old chances – but the finishing deserted him. Somehow failed to convert from a couple of yards in the first half, then lashed over and scuffed another opening wide after the break. The goalscoring aura will return, but on this evidence the blonde locks weren’t the only thing missing.

Neat enough in possession without injecting tempo or threat. Drifted through the final half-hour without leaving a real mark.
Rayan Cherki (on 62, O’Reilly) – 8
Transformed the game the moment he stepped on. Demanded the ball, drove at defenders and delivered two precise assists to flip the result on its head. After this cameo, he has every reason to expect a start at Crystal Palace on Friday.
Mateo Kovacic (on 62, Anderson) – 5
Slotted into midfield and kept things tidy, but never quite grabbed control. The lingering question: should he have been in from the first whistle instead of Guehi?
Jack Grealish (on 82, Foden) – 5
Arrived late and saw plenty of the ball out wide, yet couldn’t quite unpick a tiring Bournemouth defence in the time he had.
