Mason Mount Offered to AC Milan as Manchester United Reshapes Midfield

Manchester United’s midfield rebuild is starting to bite. To bring new faces in, someone significant may have to go out – and right now, that someone looks like Mason Mount.

According to reports in Italy, United have proposed Mount to AC Milan in a deal worth around €25m (£21.5m), with Milan boss Ruben Amorim said to have given the “green light” to explore a move. At the same time, Fabrizio Romano has made it clear that another Old Trafford talent admired in Milan, Amad Diallo, is simply not available.

Two very different answers from the same club. One door half-open, one firmly bolted.

Mount offered as United chase midfield reset

United’s summer plan is obvious: reshape the middle of the pitch. The club have already struck a deal to sign Ederson Silva from Atalanta and are still working on a move for Matheus Fernandes, despite competition from Tottenham Hotspur. To fund that kind of overhaul, they need exits, and the list of potential departures has shifted.

The original idea was to move on Manuel Ugarte, which would have freed up a sizeable chunk of budget. That route has all but collapsed after the midfielder suffered a serious knee injury at the World Cup, leaving United to look elsewhere in the squad.

Attention has turned to Mount. Since arriving from Chelsea with high expectations, his United career has been stop–start, repeatedly interrupted by injuries. Under Michael Carrick, he now finds himself down the pecking order, no longer the guaranteed starter his transfer fee once suggested.

That context has opened the door for Milan. As reported by Milan Press, United have proposed a deal to send Mount to San Siro for around €25m, a figure that reflects both his talent and his recent fitness record. The Italian outlet say Amorim, who has already worked with Mount at Old Trafford, has approved the idea of a move and given Milan the go-ahead to begin talks.

“Exchange of information” is said to be under way between the clubs, with Mount’s market value framed around that €25m mark. No agreement yet, but the lines of communication are open and the player’s name is firmly on Milan’s list as they plan what has been described as a window of “big signings, opportunities and proposals.”

For United, selling Mount at that price would be a clear statement: the midfield is being rebuilt around others, and sentiment will not stand in the way of a reshuffle.

Diallo going nowhere as Carrick draws a line

If Mount is the potential sacrifice, Amad Diallo is the one United refuse to lose.

The winger thrived under Amorim’s spell at Old Trafford, and it is no surprise that his name has surfaced in Italy as a possible target for AC Milan. Reports have linked him with a switch to Serie A, hinting at another reunion with the Portuguese coach.

That idea has been shut down in emphatic fashion.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano underlined United’s stance in blunt terms: Amad Diallo is not for sale this summer. He added that Carrick has made his position “known to the club”, with United fully expecting the 22-year-old to remain part of their plans for the new season.

The message is simple: believe the speculation if you like, but United are not listening. Any stories tying Diallo to Milan or elsewhere run into the same brick wall – a manager who sees him as central to what comes next.

In a summer of change, that clarity matters. One attacking midfielder is being quietly pushed towards the exit to finance a rebuild. Another, younger and on an upward curve, is being ring‑fenced as a cornerstone of Carrick’s project.

Milan may yet test United’s resolve on Mount. On Diallo, they already know the answer.
