Manchester United Target Ferdi Kadioglu for £40m Move
Manchester United’s search for a new left-back has taken a sharp twist, with sensational claims from Turkey suggesting Brighton’s player of the year Ferdi Kadioglu is on his way to Old Trafford in a £40m deal.
The report, emerging from Turkish outlet AS Marca and shared on X, states that United are “set to transfer” the 26-year-old, with former club Fenerbahçe due 10% of the fee – around €4.7m – as part of a sell-on clause.
The move would see United pluck yet another key performer from Brighton, a club that has grown used to watching its best players leave for bigger stages and bigger cheques.
Brighton braced for another major exit
Brighton’s model is clear: develop, showcase, sell. This summer is no different.
- Carlos Baleba is already primed for a big-money exit, with Manchester United closing in on a £65m deal plus £5m in add-ons for the midfielder.
- On the opposite flank, right winger Yankuba Minteh could also be on the move, with Liverpool weighing up a third bid expected to land between £65m and £70m.
Yet the standout last season at the Amex wasn’t Baleba or Minteh. It was Kadioglu. Versatile, relentless, and Brighton’s player of the year. Losing him would cut deep.
And there’s another sign Brighton may be preparing for exactly that.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported that Brighton & Hove Albion have reached an agreement with Young Boys for left-back Jaouen Hadjam in a deal worth €12m, plus add-ons. Hadjam is expected to sign until June 2031 and is due to fly to England within 24 hours to complete the transfer.

United’s left-back problem
Erik ten Hag’s need for a new left-back is not up for debate. Luke Shaw has been a mainstay, but injuries and the need for a long-term successor have pushed the position up United’s list of priorities as the window ticks down.
The club have explored several options.
Lewis Hall is understood to be United’s preferred target, but Newcastle have drawn a firm line. Having already cashed in on Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, the Magpies have no appetite to lose another key asset. Head coach Matthias Jaissle underlined that stance last weekend, insisting there is “no chance” Hall will leave.
Attention has also turned towards Alejandro Balde. United have held talks with his agent, Jorge Mendes, as he tests the market for opportunities away from Barcelona. ESPN reported that United’s ideal scenario would be a loan with an option to buy, a structure that would limit risk while giving them a high-upside talent.
Balde, though, would prefer to stay at Camp Nou. His future hinges on Barcelona’s stance and an upcoming face-to-face meeting with head coach Hansi Flick, which is expected to play a major role in shaping the final decision.
As those situations drag, Kadioglu’s name has surged to the front of the queue.
Kadioglu links gather pace – but still unverified
The Turkish reports paint the Kadioglu deal as close, but so far the story has not been backed up by the major European transfer heavyweights. No confirmation yet from the usual leading reporters, no formal statement from either club.
Even so, the timing is hard to ignore. Brighton closing in on Hadjam. United still without a new left-back. Kadioglu fresh from a standout season and proven in the Premier League.
For United, a £40m move for a 26-year-old entering his peak years would fit the profile of a signing designed not just to compete with Shaw, but to ultimately take his place. For Brighton, it would be another lucrative sale and another test of their ability to regenerate on the fly.
If the Turkish claims are right, Kadioglu could soon swap the south coast for Old Trafford and step straight into one of the most scrutinised roles in English football.
