Manchester City have finalized a deal with Lille to bring in 18-year-old Moroccan talent Ayyoub Bouaddi. The midfielder is set to become the long-term successor to Rodri at the Etihad Stadium, with the transfer shattering previous records.
Record Transfer for Lille’s Rising Star
The agreement involves an initial €95 million fee, plus up to €5 million in add-ons, making Bouaddi Lille's highest-ever sale. This surpasses the €80 million Arsenal paid for Nicolas Pepe in 2019. Bouaddi has signed a contract that will keep him at Manchester City until 2031, with an option for an additional year.
Replacing Rodri in City’s Midfield
This move comes after City sold Rodri to Barcelona for €60 million. Enzo Maresca, responsible for the midfield at City, confirmed the priority was finding a replacement who could fill Rodri’s role effectively. Bouaddi, a product of Lille’s academy, had been left out of their squad recently as the transfer was being finalized.

Previously representing France at youth levels from Under-16 to Under-21, Bouaddi officially switched allegiance to Morocco in May 2026. Since then, he has become a key figure in Morocco's national team setup, demonstrating his importance on the international stage.

Despite his young age, Bouaddi carries significant experience, having played 42 matches across all competitions in his third senior season last term. He helped Lille finish third in Ligue 1, securing Champions League qualification.
