Manchester City Set to Sign Lille Teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi for €100m

Manchester City are on the brink of landing one of Europe’s most coveted young midfielders, with a deal in principle agreed to sign Lille’s 18-year-old Ayyoub Bouaddi for around 100m euros (£86m).

Talks between the clubs accelerated this week, with BBC Sport revealing that negotiations had moved into an advanced stage. Those discussions have now produced an agreement for the Morocco international to join Enzo Maresca’s squad, clearing the way for Bouaddi to complete what has become a drawn-out switch to the Premier League champions.

City’s midfield rebuild has been sharp and deliberate. The departures of Rodri and Tijani Reijnders have ripped out two central pillars, forcing the club to act decisively in an area they rarely allow to weaken. Bouaddi, still a teenager but already trusted at Lille and capped by Morocco, is the latest piece in that restructuring.

The move underlines City’s willingness to pay elite money for potential, not just finished products. At 18, Bouaddi arrives as a long-term project and an immediate option, a player Maresca can shape while still expecting contributions in a demanding season.

City are not done in midfield either. Their interest in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez remains alive, even if the complexity of any deal for the World Cup winner means there is no guarantee it will happen.

For now, though, Bouaddi’s looming arrival signals City’s intent: the heart of their team is being rebuilt, and they are doing it at full throttle.
