Manchester City Rejects Barcelona’s Second Offer for Rodri Amidst Standoff
Barcelona have faced another setback in their attempt to sign midfielder Rodri from Manchester City. The Premier League club has dismissed the Catalan side's second bid, insisting on a higher price despite the player's wish to join the Spotify Camp Nou.
Second Bid Turned Down
The Blaugrana returned with an improved offer around €60 million, reported by The Times, after their initial proposal of €45 million plus €15 million in add-ons was rejected outright. Manchester City remains firm, demanding roughly £70 million (€81 million) plus performance bonuses. Even though Rodri is entering the last year of his contract, City refuses to lower their asking price.
Flick’s Influence Sparks Player’s Interest
The negotiations gained momentum after Hansi Flick personally reached out to Rodri, explaining his plans and vision for the player at Barcelona. This direct contact reportedly convinced Rodri to back the move, overcoming his previous hesitation related to Real Madrid’s interest.
Rodri's agent, Pablo Barquero, shared with Spanish radio station El Larguero that the midfielder has informed Real Madrid out of respect about his decision to join Barcelona.
Manchester City's Replacement Challenge
The high valuation might be linked to City's struggle to find a fitting replacement. Manager Enzo Maresca is targeting Enzo Fernandez as Rodri’s successor, but acquiring the Chelsea midfielder could cost even more than Barcelona's current bid. Chelsea reportedly demands £120 million for Fernandez, whose contract runs until 2032.

Despite the rejection, Barcelona remain determined to secure a new midfield leader, especially with ongoing fitness problems affecting Frenkie de Jong, who may need surgery.
