Loïc Mbe Soh Joins Sparta Prague for €3m After Impressive Sint-Truiden Spell
Loïc Mbe Soh is on the move again. The former Paris Saint-Germain and Nottingham Forest defender is leaving Sint-Truiden after just a few months to join Czech champions Sparta Prague in a deal worth around €3m.
It’s a swift reward for a player who has rebuilt his reputation quietly, far from the spotlight of the big five leagues.
From short-term fix to big-money sale
Mbe Soh only arrived at Sint-Truiden in January, drafted in as a replacement for Rein Van Helden after his switch to Antwerp. What looked like a mid-season patch-up job quickly became something more significant.
He slotted straight into the back line, making 14 appearances as Sint-Truiden powered their way to European qualification for the first time in the club’s history. That run put him back on the radar. So did the start of this season, where he had already featured twice before Sparta Prague came calling.
For Sint-Truiden, it’s a rapid turnaround: a player signed to plug a gap now leaves as a multi-million-euro sale.
A career of stops and starts
Mbe Soh’s story began at PSG, where he came through the academy and broke into the first team just enough to glimpse the elite level. He made three senior appearances in Paris before Nottingham Forest took him to England in 2020.
The move never quite caught fire. Over four seasons at Forest, he played only 13 games and scored once, his progress interrupted and diverted by loan spells at Guingamp in France and Almere City in the Netherlands. There were flashes, but not the sustained run any defender needs to establish himself.
In 2024, his time at Forest ended quietly. He left on a free transfer and joined Beerschot in the Belgian Pro League, a step down in profile but a chance to play.
He took it. Mbe Soh made 52 appearances for Beerschot. The first full season ended in relegation from the top flight, a hard blow, but he stayed and helped drive a promotion push the following year. That resilience, that willingness to grind in difficult circumstances, set up his January move to Sint-Truiden.
Sparta’s bet on a late bloomer
Now 25, Mbe Soh arrives in Prague with something he never truly had at PSG or Forest: a body of consistent senior football behind him and the momentum of a strong half-season in Belgium.
Sparta Prague are backing that form with a significant fee and a clear belief that the defender who once slipped out of the Premier League’s view is ready to anchor a back line chasing titles and European nights.
For a player who has spent much of his career on the fringes, this move is more than another stop on the journey. It’s a chance to prove that the last few months in Sint-Truiden were not a spike, but the start of his prime.
