Liverpool Close to Signing £80m Brighton Winger Yankuba Minteh on Deadline Day
Even though Cody Gakpo remains at Anfield, Liverpool might still add another player before the transfer window shuts at 11pm on Tuesday. Agents representing Brighton and Hove Albion winger Yankuba Minteh are pushing to finalize a move to Liverpool, as revealed by GIVEMESPORT’s senior correspondent Ben Jacobs.
Earlier reports on Monday evening indicated that Liverpool would keep Gakpo after failing to secure a replacement for him, with the Dutchman linked to a high-profile transfer to Manchester City. The Reds have also been linked with moves for Minteh and Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr but have yet to reach an agreement for either player.
Jacobs mentioned on talkSPORT during Deadline Day morning that Minteh’s agents remain hopeful about completing the deal today. Last week, Jacobs reported that Brighton had set their asking price at £80 million for the Gambian winger. Whether Brighton will lower this figure or hold firm in negotiations remains uncertain as the deadline approaches.
Minteh’s Fit Under Iraola’s Management
It makes sense for coach Iraola to seek one of the Premier League’s fastest players. His previous experience at Bournemouth showed a preference for speedy attackers like Antoine Semenyo and Eli Junior Kroupi, and adding pace to Liverpool’s frontline appears to be a priority.
Minteh’s stats from the 2025-26 Premier League season illustrate his speed and work rate:
- Top Speed: 36.2 km/h
- Sprints: 555
- Goals: 3
- Assists: 4
Alongside Minteh, Bradley Barcola offers plenty of pace, while current options like Gakpo and Victor Munoz mostly favor the left wing. This leaves Liverpool’s right wing lacking balance, which could explain the club's interest in securing Minteh before the transfer window closes.
