Any successful move now looks likely to go beyond that figure, pushing the deal into uncomfortable territory for a player who is far from a sure thing.

Even so, the story hasn’t cooled. Minteh’s agent, Bakary Bojang, posted an image on his Instagram story of himself preparing to board a plane, a clear hint that talks are entering a critical phase. Late-window negotiations are rarely subtle; this one feels like it’s heading for a decisive few days.

Liverpool, though, have to decide how far they’re willing to go. At what point does a solution on the right wing become an overpayment they regret?

A chaotic search for Salah’s heir

Nothing about this chase has felt smooth. Liverpool initially pushed for Yan Diomande as their preferred option on the right, only to change course and focus on Ibrahim Mbaye a couple of weeks ago. Now the spotlight has swung again, this time to Minteh.

It’s a messy pivot, and the risk is obvious. Minteh’s record is mixed and he is currently sidelined with a three‑month injury. Committing a huge fee to a player who cannot help immediately would be a bold call, even for a club used to backing their recruitment data.

Yet the market is thin. If Minteh is the one Liverpool choose, it may say as much about the lack of viable alternatives as it does about his potential.
