Liverpool Transfer Window: Late Moves for Camara and Sarr
Liverpool’s transfer window has rumbled along quietly. It might be about to catch fire.
With the deadline days away, Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara has been offered to Liverpool as a late opportunity, according to Ben Jacobs – and he is not the only Senegal international in the frame.
Wide men still the priority
Liverpool’s business so far has been measured rather than explosive. Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz have arrived on permanent deals, while Ronald Araujo has joined on loan from Barcelona to bolster the defence.
The big chase has been for Bradley Barcola. After a summer-long pursuit, Liverpool have now agreed a deal with PSG for the winger, a key piece in Andoni Iraola’s plan to refresh his wide options before the window closes on September 1.
Iraola did not hide the club’s intentions in his pre-Nottingham Forest press conference.
“The word is ‘ideally’, ideally is the magic word,” he said when pressed on whether other areas might be strengthened.
“In the end, there are certain things that you can do, certain things that we don’t know if we can do. But it’s true that the priority has been to strengthen in the wide areas.
“Still, we have four, five days, I’m sure if we can improve other areas, we will.”
Barcola is one name. Ismaila Sarr is another.
Camara on the table – and not just for Liverpool
While the focus has centred on the flanks, central midfield has suddenly come back into view.
Curtis Jones has been sold to Inter Milan, leaving Liverpool short of one more body in the middle, even with the club keen to accelerate the development of highly rated youngster Trey Nyoni.
That is where Camara enters the story.
Jacobs reports that Monaco have offered the 20-year-old to both Liverpool and Chelsea as a late-window option. Crystal Palace had already seen a bid rejected earlier in the month.
The timing is no coincidence. Journalist Luca Bendoni has revealed that Monaco have reached an agreement in principle with Cruz Azul for midfielder Erik Lira, in a deal worth around €10m including add-ons. That move depends on Monaco offloading a non-EU player – and Camara is a leading candidate.
“As Monaco has reached an agreement in principle with Cruz Azul for midfielder Erik Lira. Total package around €10m including add-ons. Deal now depending on AS Monaco completing the sale of a non-EU player,” Bendoni wrote on X.
If Monaco pull that trigger, Liverpool have a clear opening.
Double Senegal swoop still alive
The Camara links have been given an extra twist from Senegal.
Journalist La Loumance has suggested Liverpool could yet land both Camara and his international teammate Sarr before the deadline, writing on X: “Not the only Senegalese who could sign with Liverpool.”
That line dropped just as fresh noise emerged around Sarr’s future.
Miguel Delaney of The Independent reported on Thursday that Liverpool are still pursuing a deal for the Crystal Palace attacker, despite new Eagles boss Pierre Sage insisting publicly that Sarr is not for sale.
Reports initially claimed Liverpool had seen an offer of around £50m turned down. TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey has since been told that no formal bid was made. Instead, Liverpool lodged an enquiry over Sarr’s availability, with the player’s camp then pushing the winger towards Anfield in the hope of sparking a concrete offer.
So the interest is real. The numbers, less so – for now.
What is clear is that Liverpool’s recruitment team are braced for a frantic finish to the window, juggling wide targets with a late midfield opportunity that has dropped into their lap.
And with one trusted source indicating that any new midfielder is likely to be a player Iraola already knows well, the final days at Anfield promise something this summer has largely lacked: real drama.
