Liverpool's Transfer Window Activity Heats Up with New Signings
Liverpool’s late-window business has kicked sharply into gear, with Andoni Iraola closing in on a second deal in just a few hours as he races the clock before Tuesday’s deadline.
The club have worked through a largely subdued window so far, but the mood has changed. Deals are moving. Calls are being made. Iraola wants more quality in before the shutters come down.
Wide men the priority – but not the only one
Liverpool’s main task remains clear: find a left-sided attacker to help fill the void left by Mohamed Salah. Bradley Barcola has emerged as the leading option, with talks described as progressing quickly last week and an expectation that a move could be wrapped up before the window shuts.
Ismaila Sarr has also come into focus as a secondary target, his name surfacing ahead of Saturday’s draw with Nottingham Forest as Liverpool explore multiple options out wide.
But Iraola’s rebuild is not limited to the flanks.
Earlier on Monday, Liverpool were reported to have agreed a £30 million deal with Genk for goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, a significant outlay that underlines the club’s willingness to invest beyond the forward line.
And the business hasn’t stopped there.
N’Guessan next in line
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have now reached an agreement to sign Saint-Etienne striker Djylian N'Guessan, adding another highly rated teenager to their long-term project.
The 18-year-old has been granted permission to undergo a medical ahead of the deadline. The plan is not for an immediate impact: N’Guessan is expected to link up with the Liverpool squad in the summer of 2027, a move that fits neatly with the club’s strategy of stockpiling elite young talent for the future.
His contract at Saint-Etienne runs out next summer, and French outlet Foot Mercato have reported that the Ligue 2 side had already “opened the door” to his departure, aware that they risked losing him for nothing if they waited too long.
At Anfield, he will join a growing group of prospects being lined up as the next generation, as Liverpool try to balance the demands of the present with a clear-eyed plan for what comes next.
Iraola’s transfer stance
Iraola has been open about his priorities but has also left the door ajar for exactly this kind of deal.
“In the end there are certain things that you can do, certain things that we don’t know if we can do,” he said when asked about Liverpool’s late-window plans.
“It’s true that the priority has been to strengthen in the wide areas. Still we have four, five days, I’m sure if we can improve other areas, we will, but I don’t know how the market is going to finish.
“I cannot tell you. I have to be patient, the same as you. I want to know, believe me. It’s very uncomfortable for me. You are dealing with uncertainties all the time.”
Those uncertainties are now turning into concrete moves. A new goalkeeper agreed. A teenage striker on the way. Wingers still being chased.
With the deadline looming, Liverpool have finally hit stride in the market. The only question now is how far Iraola and the club are prepared to push in these final frantic hours.
