Liverpool's Transfer Talks: Barcola, Minteh, and Ramsay's Loan Move

Liverpool’s summer is still simmering, not settled.

At the top end of the window, the club are deep in talks for Bradley Barcola and Yankuba Minteh, but the numbers are eye-watering. Barcola is being priced at around £120 million as Paris Saint-Germain prepare for the 23-year-old’s possible exit, according to multiple reports. Brighton, sensing the market, are pushing hard on Minteh and now value the 22-year-old at £80 million.

Those are elite-operator prices. Whether Richard Hughes is prepared to play at that level is another matter entirely. There remains every chance Liverpool, newly crowned 2024/25 Premier League champions, simply walk away if the demands don’t shift.

While the headline figures dominate the gossip, the quieter work is happening in the other direction. Liverpool still need to clear the decks. Stefan Bajcetic, Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott are all expected to move on, trimming a squad that has grown heavy in certain areas.

One outgoing is already signed and sealed – and it carries a sense of finality.

Ramsay’s Liverpool chapter winds down

Calvin Ramsay has joined St Mirren on loan for the 2026/27 season, a move that effectively draws a line under a Liverpool career that never really got started.

The right-back arrived from Aberdeen in 2022 for a little over £4 million, a smart, low-risk investment in a Scotland international who looked built for the modern game. Instead, his Anfield story has been dominated by loan spells and stop-start momentum.

  • Preston.
  • Bolton.
  • Wigan.
  • Kilmarnock.

Ramsay has spent more time learning new dressing rooms than learning the rhythms of Anfield. For some Liverpool supporters, Arne Slot’s willingness to move him on so quickly jarred, especially after the club’s obvious issues at right-back last season.

Now comes a reset.

St Mirren manager Craig McLeish has already nailed his colours to the mast, describing Ramsay’s ability as “exceptional” and making clear that this isn’t a charity case, it’s an opportunity.

"It's a really important year for Calvin where he needs to find regular football to help kick on his career and we're happy to give him that platform because we get an exceptional young player to add to our group," McLeish told BBC Sport.

The subtext is clear: St Mirren see a player they can build around. Liverpool see a player they are prepared to let go.

Ramsay is under contract at Anfield until 2027, but this deal allows him to effectively see out that agreement away from Merseyside. With no pathway back into the first team in sight, this season in the Scottish Premiership looks like a shop window as much as a lifeline.

He leaves Liverpool with just four senior appearances, all under Jurgen Klopp – a brief breakthrough that hinted at more before the revolving door of loans began.

Now the equation is brutally simple. Liverpool chase nine-figure wingers; Ramsay chases minutes, form and a permanent home. Only one of those pursuits comes with any guarantees.
