Liverpool Signs Bradley Barcola for £100 Million
Liverpool have moved to fill the void left by Mo Salah by striking an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for winger Bradley Barcola in a deal that will sit among the biggest in the club’s history.
The 23-year-old is set for Anfield after the two clubs reached what has been described as an outline agreement worth £100 million guaranteed, with a further £20m tied to performance-related add-ons, according to The Times. Final details still need to be signed off, but the breakthrough in talks reportedly came overnight as negotiations accelerated.
Liverpool’s Salah successor
Barcola has been Liverpool’s primary attacking target this summer as they attempt to replace the extraordinary output of Salah, who left for Trabzonspor on a free transfer earlier this month. The message from the recruitment team has been clear: this window had to deliver a statement signing in the forward line.
They have turned to a player who has been agitating for more minutes in Paris. At PSG, Barcola has found himself behind Desire Doue and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia in the attacking hierarchy, while the recent arrivals of Ferran Torres, Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts have only squeezed his opportunities further. A move was the obvious next step; Liverpool have offered the platform.
PSG initially demanded a huge £145m fee, but the French champions have softened their stance, opening the door for Liverpool to close in on a deal at a significantly lower guaranteed price.
A place in Liverpool’s record books
If completed on the reported terms, the transfer will make Barcola the second-most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history. Only Alexander Isak, who joined from Newcastle United for £125m last year, would sit above him.
The fee would put Barcola level with Florian Wirtz, who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen for £100m, with a further £16m in add-ons dependent on Liverpool lifting either the Premier League or the UEFA Champions League.
Barcola still has two years remaining on his PSG contract, which underlines the scale of Liverpool’s commitment and PSG’s willingness to cash in now rather than risk a depreciating asset later.
Liverpool wanted a marquee answer to the Salah question. If this deal is finalised, they will be betting £100m – and potentially £120m – that Bradley Barcola is it.
