Liverpool Secure £34m Signing of Victor Munoz, Outpacing Newcastle for Spain Star
Liverpool Complete £34 Million Signing of Victor Munoz
Liverpool have confirmed the acquisition of Spain international winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna, beating Newcastle United in the race to sign the promising left winger. The Reds triggered a £34 million ($45m) release clause to finalize the deal swiftly.
Reds Move Quickly to Seal Deal
The Merseyside club acted decisively, ensuring no other clubs could intervene. Munoz, who is currently representing Spain at the World Cup, passed his medical examination in Tennessee, USA, and has signed a long-term contract. The transfer awaits work permit approval and international clearance, but Liverpool already secured his commitment, signaling ambition in their recruitment strategy.
Newcastle Miss Out on Target
The transfer represents a setback for Newcastle United, who had been pursuing Munoz as a key addition after selling Anthony Gordon to Barcelona. Despite deep negotiations, they could not compete with Liverpool’s direct approach, which avoided drawn-out talks by immediately meeting Osasuna’s valuation. Now, Newcastle must explore other options for strengthening their squad this summer.
First Signing Under Iraola
This move marks the first signing since Andoni Iraola became head coach. Munoz will join his new teammates after the World Cup. Iraola reportedly values the 22-year-old’s tactical versatility and high work rate, qualities suited to the demanding style he plans to implement at Anfield.
Munoz has earned two caps for Spain, scoring on his debut against Serbia in March. His breakthrough season at Osasuna featured seven goals and five assists in 34 appearances. Having developed in both Barcelona’s and Real Madrid’s youth systems, he brings a refined technical skill set to the Premier League.
Additional Liverpool Squad Update
Technically, Munoz is Liverpool’s second confirmed senior squad addition this year, following defender Jeremy Jacquet earlier in the season. Meanwhile, Munoz prepares for Spain’s upcoming World Cup match against Saudi Arabia in Atlanta after an unexpected goalless draw with Cape Verde.
