Liverpool Scouts Monitor Teenager Louis Page from League One

Liverpool’s search for a new heartbeat in midfield has taken them to League One – and to an 18-year-old rapidly becoming one of the most watched teenagers in the country.

The Reds’ engine room remains the obvious weak spot in an otherwise finely tuned squad. Alexis Mac Allister has rediscovered his rhythm, but the balance still feels fragile. Too often, Liverpool look one strong defensive midfielder short of being truly complete.

That’s why the club’s scouting department has been busy. Lamine Camara, Adam Wharton and others have all been checked, discussed, then left on the table. No deal, no breakthrough, just a growing sense that the right number six still hasn’t walked through the door.

Now a fresh name has joined the conversation: Louis Page.

Liverpool scouts join Premier League pack for Page

Liverpool sent scouts to watch Page in action, joining a crowd of heavyweights tracking the Leicester City youngster. According to TEAMtalk, representatives from Manchester City, Everton, Newcastle United and Sunderland were also in attendance at Stockport, with all of them monitoring the teenager’s progress.

They are not alone. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham have already shown interest, while Manchester United have stepped up their efforts, sending scouts to Edgeley Park and believing they are still in pole position after groundwork laid in the summer. Borussia Dortmund’s presence underlines how quickly Page’s reputation is spreading beyond England.

This is not a quiet chase. It is a full-scale race for a player still operating in League One, but clearly viewed as far more than that.

Midfield urgency at Anfield

For Liverpool, the timing makes sense. Andoni Iraola has largely settled his defence and attack, but the pivot in front of the back line remains a live issue. The Carabao Cup tie against Tottenham on Tuesday was a reminder of what a more secure midfield can look like.

Mac Allister and Trey Nyoni both impressed, starting together and offering a clear upgrade on the Dominik Szoboszlai–Ryan Gravenberch partnership that has struggled to dominate physically. They won more duels, closed spaces, and gave Liverpool a platform. The contrast was hard to ignore.

At the top level, defending with fewer than five players behind the ball is asking for trouble. Teams move the ball quicker, break lines easier, and punish hesitation. Liverpool know this as well as anyone. A robust, reliable holding midfielder is no luxury; it’s a necessity.

That’s where Page comes into focus.

A teenager with shades of Henderson

Page is only 18. He is nowhere near captaining a senior side yet. But the way he plays – his intensity, his willingness to run, his appetite for the tackle – inevitably draws comparisons with Jordan Henderson.

Henderson’s greatest strength at Liverpool was never just his passing or pressing. It was the relentlessness. He covered every blade, flew into challenges, and set the tone for those around him. Page, at Leicester, is already showing flashes of that same mentality.

Leicester’s wild 4-3 win over Stockport on Saturday underlined his growing influence. The teenager registered two assists and, according to Sofascore, ranked among Russell Martin’s best performers on the day. It was the sort of display that makes scouts sit up rather than just tick a box.

The gap from League One to the Premier League is huge. No one at Liverpool will be blind to that. But with the right coaching under Iraola, and a structured pathway rather than instant pressure, Page looks like the kind of profile who could grow into a long-term solution at the base of midfield.

For now, Liverpool have only taken the first step: sending scouts, gathering information, measuring him against a long list of options. Yet of all the number six candidates floated this season, Page might just be the one that fits the club’s future as much as its present.

If Liverpool want another leader in the mould of Henderson, are they prepared to find him in League One and shape him themselves?
