Liverpool's Pursuit of Ismaïla Sarr Stalled by Crystal Palace

Liverpool’s search for a successor to Mohamed Salah has hit another wall, with Crystal Palace making it clear that Ismaïla Sarr is going nowhere.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool tested Palace’s resolve with a bid worth €58.4 million for the Senegalese winger. The Athletic, though, has offered a different angle, reporting that no formal offer actually landed at Selhurst Park. What both sides of the story agree on is this: Liverpool asked the question, and Palace delivered a firm answer. Sarr is not for sale.

The message from South London is consistent. Galatasaray have already tried twice this summer to prise Sarr away, only to see both bids rejected. The Turkish club are now thought to be backing away rather than coming back with a third, improved offer. Palace, fresh from a European triumph, are acting like a club determined to keep one of their crown jewels.

A Complicated Summer on the Right

Liverpool’s recruitment team have been working through a long and expensive shortlist. Andoni Iraola’s side had initially lined up Yankuba Minteh, but that move collapsed under the weight of Brighton’s valuation. The Seagulls were said to be demanding around €90 million, a figure that forced Liverpool to walk away and pivot towards other targets.

That turn of attention led them to Sarr.

At 28, the Palace winger offers something Liverpool value highly: proven Premier League pedigree. He has clocked up 116 top-flight appearances and played a central role in Palace’s Europa Conference League triumph, scoring 21 goals during that campaign for the Eagles. Performances at that level rarely go unnoticed. Interest from bigger clubs always felt like a matter of time, and this summer has delivered exactly that.

Liverpool haven’t limited themselves to one profile, either. Alongside their Sarr interest, the club have held talks with Paris Saint-Germain over Bradley Barcola. The French international is more naturally suited to the left, but his name sits firmly on the Anfield agenda as the recruitment team weigh up how to rebuild a forward line that has revolved around Salah for years.

For now, Liverpool know where they stand. Palace won’t budge on Sarr. Brighton won’t blink on Minteh. The window clock keeps ticking. Who blinks first?
