Liverpool Pursues Bradley Barcola: Verbal Agreement in Place

Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has moved into high gear, with Fabrizio Romano claiming there is now a “verbal agreement” between the Paris Saint-Germain winger and the Anfield club.

Barcola picks Liverpool – and makes his move

Liverpool have zeroed in on Barcola after missing out on Yan Diomande, who has joined Real Madrid, as they look for a long-term heir to Mohamed Salah on the right flank.

Despite a busy summer that has already brought in Ronald Araujo, Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet, glaring gaps remain out wide. The situation is sharp enough that Liverpool are still considering signing two more wingers, with Cody Gakpo’s future uncertain amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Barcola, though, sits at the top of the list. He does not want to extend his PSG deal beyond 2028 and, according to multiple reports, that stance is driven by his desire to join Liverpool.

Romano has repeatedly stressed that personal terms have never been an obstacle. In his latest YouTube update, he went a step further: there is now a “verbal agreement” between Liverpool and Barcola, with the player making it clear he “wants to go” to Anfield. Liverpool, Romano says, are “ready to go strong” to get the transfer over the line.

A “deal is on”, in his words. The question is at what price.

PSG dig in over the fee

That is where this story tightens.

PSG’s valuation of Barcola has been described as “crazy” by Romano. The French champions are said to be looking for a package worth around €200m, bundling Barcola together with Ibrahim Mbaye. That combined demand has already had consequences: Liverpool have effectively walked away from any move for Mbaye.

Barcola remains the obsession, but not at any cost.

Earlier reports suggested PSG wanted as much as £145m for the winger alone. It is a figure that underlines how hard Liverpool will have to push in negotiations, especially as they look to reshape their attack without blowing up their entire transfer model.

Yet the stance in Paris is not entirely closed. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, speaking about the club’s business this summer, chose his words carefully.

“We’re working calmly,” he said. “We don’t talk too much. We get things done. All of our players are important. When they sign for PSG, they become important to us.”

No promise he stays. No promise he goes. Just a door left slightly ajar.

Schira: Liverpool ‘getting closer’ at €125m

While Romano has framed the situation as an agreement on the player side with negotiations ongoing with PSG, Nicolo Schira has gone further.

The Italian journalist claims Liverpool are now “getting closer” to striking a deal at €125m (around £106m), with a contract running until 2032. His update on X read: “Excl. – Bradley #Barcola is getting closer to #Liverpool from #PSG for 125M. Contract until 2032.”

That figure is well below the £145m initially floated around Paris, which is why it comes with a clear health warning. At this stage, it is difficult to see PSG simply backing down that far without a fight, particularly for a player tied down until 2028.

But Liverpool’s interest is not in doubt. Nor is Barcola’s desire to make the switch.

The club still want two wingers before the window shuts. One of them is ready to say yes. The rest depends on how far PSG are willing to bend – and how far Liverpool are prepared to go to reshape their attack for the post-Salah era.
