Liverpool Submit £50m Proposal for Ismaila Sarr After Salah Departure

Liverpool have stepped up their search for a Mohamed Salah successor by submitting a £50m proposal to Crystal Palace for Ismaila Sarr, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The move drops another twist into a winger hunt that has dominated Liverpool’s summer.

Salah gone, search intensifies

Salah’s departure to Turkish side Trabzonspor ripped a hole out of Liverpool’s right flank and their goals column. Victor Munoz arrived from Osasuna earlier in the window, but the club have always been clear: they want two wingers in before the deadline.

Yan Diomande was the first big swing. Liverpool made him their top target early in the window and even lodged a bid, only to watch the Ivorian steer his way to Real Madrid instead.

Attention then turned to Bradley Barcola. He operates off the left, but Liverpool see him as the headline attacking recruit, with the club still locked on to him as their “first priority,” Romano reports. While that chase continues, recruitment staff have been scouring the market for a right-sided option to fill the Salah void.

Minteh price kills the deal

For a time, that player looked like Yankuba Minteh. Liverpool tested Brighton’s resolve with two bids this month, the latest around £60m.

Brighton’s response was blunt.

Journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that the south-coast club informed Liverpool they wanted £80m for the winger – a figure the Anfield hierarchy view as excessive. Jacobs wrote on X that Liverpool are not expected to return with a third offer unless that valuation drops, with their previous bid seen inside the club as “competitive” but still rejected.

The stance has had consequences. Romano has since stated that negotiations for Minteh have “gone cold” over the last 24 hours as Liverpool “explore different options” for a second winger, reiterating that Barcola remains the priority.

With the Minteh deal effectively frozen, Liverpool have pivoted again.

£50m proposal for Sarr

Romano now reports that Liverpool have opened talks with Crystal Palace to sign Ismaila Sarr, sending a proposal worth around £50m to Selhurst Park.

The Senegal international is described as “keen” on the move, raising the prospect of a Premier League switch rather than a transfer abroad. Palace, though, are under no pressure to sell and have already shown they are prepared to resist bids.

Galatasaray have twice been knocked back for Sarr, with Palace rejecting both offers from the Turkish champions. Even so, the player’s future has been under a spotlight for days.

Last week, Romano revealed that Sarr had agreed personal terms with Galatasaray and was pushing to leave Palace. He was left out of the matchday squad at the weekend as speculation intensified.

Romano wrote that there was still no agreement between the clubs, with Palace wanting to keep the winger while Sarr “keeps pushing for the move.”

Liverpool’s late arrival into the race now threatens to blow that Turkish deal apart.

Palace insist on fitness call

Inside Palace, the official line remains different. Sarr’s absence from the 2-0 defeat to Everton was explained away as a medical decision.

Manager Pierre Sage addressed the situation head-on after the game.

“It’s normal (the panic from fans) because two days ago, I said he will play,” Sage said. “Yesterday, we made a medical point with the doctor of the club, the player and me.

“We have chosen that he cannot play because for the moment he’s not really 100%. That’s why we didn’t want to take a risk.”

Publicly, then, Palace frame it as fitness, not transfer politics. Behind the scenes, a Champions League club has just put £50m on the table for a player already agitating for a move.

Liverpool still want Barcola. They have cooled on Minteh. And now they are testing Palace’s resolve for Sarr.

One way or another, that right flank at Anfield will not stay empty for long.
