Liverpool's £50m Bid for Sarr Amid Minteh Chase Collapse

Liverpool have turned sharply towards Crystal Palace winger Sarr, lodging a £50 million offer as they scramble to reshape a forward line ripped apart in brutal fashion.

According to the Mirror, Liverpool pulled the plug on their pursuit of Minteh after Brighton flatly rejected two bids that fell well short of the £70m valuation. With the window closing on Monday and only five days left to operate, Liverpool have switched targets – and moved fast.

Sarr, 28, has been on Palace’s books for two years and is understood to be eager to make the jump to Anfield. The timing is no coincidence. Liverpool’s attacking department has been left reeling: the tragic death of Diogo Jota and the exits of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah have turned wide forwards from a long-term consideration into an urgent necessity.

But this is no free run at a distressed asset. Far from it.

Competition building for Sarr

Foot Mercato reports that Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal and Turkish champions Galatasaray are both firmly in the race for Sarr. Galatasaray are said to be in advanced talks, pushing hard to close a deal, while Al-Hilal are tracking developments and ready to pounce if the opportunity opens.

Liverpool’s £50m offer, then, lands in the middle of a three-way battle. Palace hold a player whose stock has rarely been higher. The next few days will test how determined they are to keep him.

A winger at his peak

Sarr’s numbers over the past season explain the scramble.

He made 45 appearances in all competitions for Palace last term, scoring 21 goals and supplying two assists, playing a central role in the club’s run to UEFA Europa Conference League glory. On top of that, he carried his form onto the biggest stage this summer, scoring four times at the World Cup before Senegal bowed out to Belgium in the round of 32.

Those are the kind of returns Liverpool once took for granted from their wide men. Now they are trying to buy them back.

Iraola pushes for reinforcements

Manager Iraola has not hidden his concern about the state of his squad, particularly with Tottenham and Manchester City circling Cody Gakpo and testing Liverpool’s resolve in another key attacking area.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he laid out the reality of a tense end to the window. "Some deals you have to wait until the end. But the end is the important picture, the one we will have on September 1, because it is true that we are still quite thin," he said.

The Spaniard admitted he had wanted every position doubled with top-level options before the campaign kicked off. That ideal has already slipped away. Now he is adapting on the fly, trying to piece together a front line while rivals probe his best players and the clock runs down.

Liverpool have made their move for Sarr. The question now is whether £50m – and the pull of Anfield – can cut through the noise of Galatasaray’s advances, Al-Hilal’s money, and Palace’s resolve before the window slams shut.
