Liverpool Faces Transfer Blockade as PSG Demands £145m for Barcola; Rayan Steps Up as Backup
Liverpool is locked in ongoing talks with Paris Saint-Germain over winger Bradley Barcola, but PSG's steep asking price of around £145 million is causing delays. The Reds have started considering Bournemouth’s Brazilian attacker Rayan as a contingency plan if negotiations falter.
Barcola Still Liverpool's First Choice
The club remains focused on acquiring Barcola to fill the void left by Mohamed Salah. The 23-year-old French winger offers pace, directness, and flexibility to play on either wing, fitting well into head coach Andoni Iraola’s tactics. Reports from CaughtOffside indicate Liverpool is prepared to invest approximately €100 million for the France international.
PSG’s High Valuation Poses Obstacle
Despite Liverpool’s readiness to spend, PSG’s valuation complicates matters. They reportedly want between £140 million and £145 million before entertaining any transfer. While Barcola himself seems keen on joining Liverpool, the pricing gap has pushed the club to prepare alternatives to avoid last-minute scrambling, especially since Liverpool’s attack needs more depth and unpredictability ahead of the new season.
Rayan Emerges as a Strong Alternative
If the deal for Barcola collapses, Bournemouth’s 20-year-old Brazilian winger Rayan is set to be Liverpool’s primary backup target. Personal terms are reportedly agreed in principle. Having already adapted to Iraola’s demanding style, Rayan brings speed, strength, and room for growth on the right flank. He impressed during his debut Premier League stint, contributing seven goals and assists in 15 games after arriving earlier this year.
Additional Transfer Options Remain in Play
So far, Liverpool’s summer signings include defender Jeremy Jacquet and winger Victor Munoz, but neither fully covers the creative and scoring role left by Salah. To prepare for a title challenge, the Reds need another top-class attacker. If both Barcola and Rayan fall through, other possibilities are still being explored.
- Yankuba Minteh: A powerful option under consideration.
- Matias Fernandez-Pardo (Lille): Offers versatility across forward positions.
The club continues to monitor the market carefully while balancing its squad needs.
