Leipzig Pursues Nkunku Reunion Amid Newcastle Interest

RB Leipzig are closing in on a familiar face. The Bundesliga club have reached a preliminary agreement with Milan to bring Christopher Nkunku back to Saxony during the current transfer window.

The outline of the deal is clear. Leipzig would take the France forward on loan for a fee of around €3 million, with a purchase option set at roughly €27 million. The paperwork is not done yet. Personal terms between Leipzig and Nkunku still need to be thrashed out before anything can be signed.

For Leipzig, the move is about rewinding the tape. Nkunku’s rise to stardom came in their colours, and they want to revive that story after a Milan spell that never matched the hype. Milan, by contrast, are studying the market and weighing up how best to move the player on without taking a bigger hit later.

Just as Leipzig thought they had a clear run, Newcastle stepped into the frame.

Newcastle push for permanent deal

Newcastle remain firmly in the race and are not treating this as a background enquiry. They are in active talks with both Leipzig and Nkunku’s camp, working on a structure that would see the deal become a permanent transfer rather than a simple loan.

That stance could change the landscape. A straight sale would likely appeal to Milan, who may prefer immediate clarity and cash over a loan with a deferred buy option that still carries sporting and financial risk.

So Leipzig offer familiarity, a system Nkunku knows, and a route back to his best. Newcastle offer the Premier League, a long-term project and, crucially, the prospect of an outright purchase.

The next move belongs to the player – and to Milan’s accountants.
