Keisuke Honda Debuts with FC Jurong in Singapore
Keisuke Honda’s remarkable football odyssey has reached Singapore – and it took him barely eight minutes to leave a mark.
The 40-year-old Japanese star finally pulled on an FC Jurong shirt for competitive action, stepping off the bench in the 82nd minute of a 3–0 win over Hougang United at Jurong East Stadium. The roar told its own story. Wearing his familiar number four, Honda jogged on to a standing ovation, the home crowd greeting not just a new signing, but a global name dropping into their local league.
A Late Cameo With Purpose
Honda replaced compatriot Yuma Tsuzurabara on the right flank and wasted no time showing he was there to do more than simply soak up applause. In the 87th minute, he chased what looked a lost cause, harrying Hougang goalkeeper Takahiro Koga into a rushed clearance. It was a small moment, but it underlined his intent: the legs may be older, the standards are not.
Deep into stoppage time, the veteran almost capped his debut with an assist. Spotting the run of Mizuki Ando, Honda slipped a perfectly weighted through ball into his path. Ando finished, the stadium erupted – then the flag went up. Offside. The goal chalked off, the pass still a reminder of the vision that has carried Honda around the world.
Just days earlier, he had been barking instructions from the technical area in FC Jurong’s opening match. This time, he showed he is ready to influence games from inside the white lines again.
Another Stamp in the Passport
Singapore is country number 11 on Honda’s extraordinary professional journey. It all began with Nagoya Grampus in the J1 League, before he set off on a tour that has taken in the Netherlands, Russia, Italy, Mexico, Australia, Brazil, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, and Bhutan.
Between 2018 and 2023, he somehow found time to serve as general manager of the Cambodia national team while still playing, juggling boardroom responsibility with the demands of a 90-cap international career. As recently as 2024, he turned out for Paro FC in Bhutan. Now, he has signed on for FC Jurong’s 2026–27 campaign, adding yet another unlikely stop to a career that refuses to wind down quietly.
Jurong Cruise as Honda Enters the Stage
By the time Honda came on, FC Jurong already had the game under control. Takuma Yamaguchi had broken the deadlock, before Haziq Kamarudin added the second to put daylight between the sides. Substitute Ando then stepped off the bench to wrap up the points with the third.
Hougang’s night unravelled further when Zulqarnaen Suzliman was shown a straight red card, leaving them to finish with ten men and little hope of a late response.
For FC Jurong, it was a second straight league win and another clean, confident performance. For Honda, it was a brief but telling glimpse of what he still offers: energy, intelligence, and the kind of calm on the ball that only comes from a career spent under bright lights on several continents.
