Juventus Sign Pape Matar Sarr from Tottenham for €30 Million

Juventus have struck a deal with Tottenham Hotspur to sign midfielder Pape Matar Sarr in a move that could rise to €30 million, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

The 23-year-old Senegal international will initially arrive in Turin on loan, with an option to buy written into the agreement. That clause will not stay optional for long if things go to plan. The fee becomes mandatory should Juventus hit specific performance targets, including qualifying for the Champions League, while Sarr must also reach a set number of appearances over the season.

This is not a move that came out of nowhere. Talks between the clubs accelerated once Sarr made it clear he wanted a new challenge away from North London. His path at Tottenham had grown more congested under Roberto De Zerbi, especially after the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali ramped up the competition for minutes in midfield.

For a time, Monaco looked to be in pole position for his signature. They had tracked Sarr closely and were widely viewed as favourites to land him. Juventus changed that in a hurry. Once the Bianconeri stepped in, Sarr quickly agreed personal terms, attracted by the project in Turin and the promise of a central role.

From Juve’s perspective, this is a late-window move with clear tactical purpose. Having missed out on other midfield targets, they pivoted decisively towards Sarr, drawn to his high-energy, box-to-box profile and ball-winning edge. He offers legs, aggression and vertical running in an area where Massimiliano Allegri’s side have often looked short of dynamism.

For Tottenham, the deal reshapes a crowded department and could turn into a significant payday if the purchase clause is triggered. Sarr departs after more than 100 competitive appearances for Spurs, having joined from FC Metz in 2021 and grown from a raw prospect into a regular squad option.

With an agreement in place, Sarr has been cleared to travel to Turin to undergo his medical and sign the contract before the transfer deadline slams shut. Juventus get their midfielder. Tottenham move a step closer to the reset they want under De Zerbi.

And the London club are not done. They are still pushing for another attacker before the window closes, with Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye at the top of their list. Arsenal and Manchester City are also in the frame, though, and Spurs now face the familiar question that shapes every big window: can they move quickly enough to turn a busy plan into a decisive finish?
