Juventus Sign Nick Woltemade on Loan from Newcastle

Juventus have struck a deal to sign Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade on a season-long loan, moving quickly to land a striker before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

The 24-year-old is expected in Turin for a medical after the clubs agreed a £3.5m fee, with no option or obligation to buy included in the agreement. It is a straight loan, a low-risk move for the Italian side and a clean, one-year solution for Newcastle.

Juventus pick Woltemade over Zirkzee

Juventus had been scouring the market for a forward as Jonathan David closes in on a loan switch to Atletico Madrid, leaving a gap in their attacking plans. Talks were held with Manchester United over Joshua Zirkzee, whose proposed move to Fiorentina collapsed, but the numbers never quite aligned.

Manchester United wanted an obligation-to-buy clause attached to any Zirkzee loan. Juventus walked away. Woltemade offered something different: flexibility, value, and a profile they believe fits their system without locking them into a long-term commitment.

Cheaper, more straightforward, and available. Juventus moved.

Newcastle’s record signing heads for a reset

Woltemade only arrived at Newcastle from Stuttgart in August 2025, signed for £69m and billed as a major attacking piece for the new era under Matthias Jaissle. Yet his start to life on Tyneside has been stuttering.

He has started just one of Jaissle’s first three matches in charge. On Saturday, he came off the bench at Tottenham Hotspur and made an impact, supplying the assist for Yoane Wissa in a 2-0 win. It was a glimpse of what he can offer, not a sign of a settled role.

Newcastle, though, have been reshaping their forward line. BBC Sport had already indicated that a move for Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo would likely open the door for Woltemade’s exit. That prediction is now playing out.

Fernandez-Pardo flew into Tyneside on Monday evening to finalise a transfer worth up to £55m, clearing the way for Newcastle to sanction Woltemade’s loan and ease the congestion in their attacking options.

So Woltemade heads to Turin in search of minutes, rhythm, and a platform. Juventus get the striker they wanted on their terms. Newcastle press on with a retooled frontline. The clock is still ticking on the window, but for all three parties, this move lands right on time.
