Juventus Sign Jhon Lucumí for €22 Million
Juventus finally have their man.
After a summer spent circling defensive targets and listening to the clock tick toward the new season, the Bianconeri have moved decisively, landing Bologna center back Jhon Lucumí in a deal worth up to €22 million.
A deal Juve – and Lucumí – were determined to make
The agreement, announced on Monday, sees Juventus pay an initial €19.5 million to Bologna, with a further €2 million in potential bonuses tied to performance objectives and up to €0.6 million in ancillary costs. The fee will be spread over three financial years.
Lucumí has signed a four-year contract running until June 30, 2030 and is expected to earn around €2.5 million net per season.
This is not a transfer that drifted into place by accident. The 28-year-old Colombian, fresh off a strong World Cup campaign, had long set his sights on Turin. As offers and enquiries came in from elsewhere over the summer, he turned them down, waiting for Juventus and Bologna to finally thrash out an agreement. They did so late last week. The move he wanted all along is now sealed.
From Bologna’s backbone to Juve’s new pillar
Lucumí arrives after four seasons at Bologna, where he grew into one of Serie A’s most reliable central defenders and a key figure in the club’s rise.
Under Thiago Motta, he anchored a back line that powered Bologna to Champions League qualification, a landmark achievement for the club. One year later, he was again in the thick of it as Bologna went on to lift the Coppa Italia, completing a remarkable domestic rise.
Consistency has been his calling card. In each of his four Serie A campaigns with Bologna, Lucumí logged at least 2,200 league minutes, a testament to his durability and importance. He was not a rotation option. He was the constant at the heart of their defense.
A long-awaited injection of steel
For Juventus, this signing answers a question that has lingered for months. The back line has cried out for fresh legs and fresh leadership, and the club has finally injected both in one move.
The wait dragged through the summer. The reinforcement arrived in the very week the new season begins.
Now it is over to Lucumí. From Bologna’s bedrock to Juventus’ new cornerstone, he steps into Turin with a clear mandate: steady a defense in transition and help drag the Bianconeri back to where they believe they belong.
