That tension is real. Alvarez’s declared desire to leave, and specifically to join Barcelona, has not gone down well inside the Atletico dressing room. Several teammates are understood to be unhappy with how open he has been about his intentions. The Argentine is keen to avoid a toxic atmosphere in a squad where he is expected to perform every week. A clean break, even if not to his preferred destination, is starting to look more appealing.
