Jordan Henderson's Lasting Impact at Brentford

Jordan Henderson’s influence at Brentford has lingered long after his departure, and those who shared a dressing room with him are still feeling it.

Defender Nathan Collins, speaking to Sky Sports, painted a picture of a short stay that left a sizeable mark.

“The main thing is him as a person. It was a short stint, but I think he really enjoyed his time here,” Collins said, stressing that what stuck wasn’t just the CV, but the character that walked into the building.

By the end of the season, Henderson had made that clear.

“He showed his true colours by the end of the season – who he is and what he’s about. He got on with everyone, he had a really good attitude and looked forward to talking to people. And his standards on the pitch were a really big thing. He drove them, and he had a high set of standards. He really drove training a lot.”

That last line matters at a club like Brentford. Training is the heartbeat. Henderson pushed it, raised it, demanded more. Then he was gone.

Collins didn’t hide that gap.

“It’s tough that he’s gone, but we have a few players who can step into that role and help out. What he’s left from last season, I think that will continue.”

Brentford haven’t waited around to find the next leader in midfield. They went big. A £41m club-record move brought Mamadou Sangare in from Lens, a 23-year-old with a growing reputation and a winner’s edge.

He arrives with real substance behind the fee. Sangare helped Lens lift the Coupe de France and finished last season with the highest number of possession recoveries in Ligue 1 – exactly the sort of profile Brentford crave at the base of their structure.

Collins has already seen enough to understand why the club pushed so hard.

“He brings a lot of energy. He brings a lot of tackles and forward-thinking passes. He’s just a really good footballer and a smart footballer. He speaks really good English so he’s settled in really nicely and to have him in front of you, it’ll be a big help for all players.”

One leader has gone, another has walked through the door. The standard Henderson set now becomes the bar Sangare is expected to hit – and then raise.
