Johor Bahru Brawl After World Cup Final Between Spain and Argentina

A World Cup final that should have belonged to Spain and Argentina instead spilled into the streets of Johor Bahru, where the drama turned from football to a full-blown brawl.

Johor police chief Ab Rahaman Arsad said officers received a report of the incident at 5.40am, in the bleary aftermath of the match screening. Within hours, the response was swift and targeted.

Between 10am and 11am, police moved in around the Taman Setia Indah area and arrested seven suspects linked to the fight. They did not get far.

“All the suspects were arrested around the Taman Setia Indah area not long after the incident was reported,” he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia. Checks later revealed that three of those detained already had criminal records, adding a familiar edge to an ugly morning.

The confrontation, captured in a two-minute, 36-second video now circulating across social media, shows a chaotic melee believed to have erupted during the live screening of the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina. What began as a shared spectacle of elite football turned into a scene of flying tempers and raised weapons.

Rahaman confirmed that the suspects will be taken to the Johor Bahru magistrates’ court tomorrow, where police will apply for a remand order. The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code, which deals with rioting with weapons — a serious charge that carries real consequences, far beyond the result of any match.
