Jamal Musiala Calms Health Concerns After Collapses
Jamal Musiala has moved quickly to calm fears over his health after twice collapsing on the pitch in the space of four days during Bayern Munich’s pre-season.
The 23-year-old Germany international suffered his latest scare on Tuesday, August 18, in a 4-2 win away to Heidenheim. Sent on from the bench, he lasted only a few minutes before looking dazed and then sinking to the turf, prompting immediate concern from teammates and opponents.
Players from both sides rushed towards him as Bayern’s medical staff sprinted on. Musiala eventually got back to his feet and walked off without assistance, but his expression told its own story — shaken, confused, and fully aware of the alarm around him.
It was a scene Bayern had already lived through once.
Three days earlier, in a 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig, Musiala had also appeared unsteady and needed help after going down. At first, many pointed to the summer heat as a likely trigger. When it happened again in cooler conditions, that explanation no longer held.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl addressed the situation after the Heidenheim match, revealing the club already knew of an underlying issue and had been monitoring it. He stressed that Musiala was conscious, had completed his usual post-match routine, and would speak publicly about his condition.
That message came later the same night.
Taking to Instagram, Musiala opened with the words anxious Bayern fans needed to hear: he is fine. He then set out the diagnosis he has been given by specialists, explaining that the episodes are temporary, brief absence seizures linked to a neurological dysfunction — and, crucially, easily treatable.
He accepted that the collapses, caught live and replayed on screens, looked frightening. But he also relayed the doctors’ key verdict: no additional health risks have been identified.
With full neurological clearance, Musiala has decided to continue his life as normal and keep playing football. He described himself as “very optimistic” about managing the condition and made a point of thanking Bayern Munich, his family, and close friends for their support during a deeply unsettling few days.
Two collapses in four days would rattle any dressing room. Musiala’s response has been to meet the fear head-on — and then step forward, determined to carry on.
