Jamal Musiala Driving Ban After High-Speed Crash

Jamal Musiala’s year from hell has taken another sharp turn, this time far away from the pitch.

The Bayern Munich midfielder has been hit with a driving ban and a substantial financial penalty after a high-speed crash on the A8 motorway near Salzburg, an incident that had, until now, largely stayed out of the public eye.

High-speed collision on the A8

The accident occurred on April 13, 2025. Musiala, then 22, was at the wheel of an Audi RS e-tron GT, a powerful electric car capable of producing more than 600 horsepower. He was reportedly travelling with his younger sister as he headed along the A8 towards Salzburg.

According to the Munich I Public Prosecutor's Office, the situation escalated during an overtaking manoeuvre. Spokesperson Florian Lindemann outlined the findings of the investigation, stating that the “accused Jamal M., who was driving at excessive speed at the time, overlooked a car driving to his right, resulting in a collision.”

The numbers are stark. Musiala was clocked at 194 km/h in a section of motorway limited to 120 km/h.

His car collided with a VW Golf carrying two people, a 30-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman. Both sustained minor injuries in the impact. Musiala, described in reports as shocked by what had happened, is said to have immediately gone to check on the welfare of the other occupants.

The financial cost of the crash has been estimated at around €200,000 in property damage.

Court ruling and driving ban

The legal consequences followed after months of investigation. On January 28, 2026, the Munich District Court issued a penal order against the 23-year-old.

Lindemann confirmed that the order, now legally binding, found Musiala guilty of negligent endangerment of road traffic and negligent bodily injury in two cases. The ruling brings both financial and administrative punishment.

Beyond the fine, the most significant sanction is the loss of his licence. Musiala’s privilege to drive has been revoked, and the timeline for any return to the road is clear. As Lindemann explained, “a new driving licence may not be issued to Musiala before the expiry of nine months from the time the penal order became legally binding,” meaning he will remain off the road until at least the autumn.

Representatives of the former Chelsea academy prospect have confirmed the incident and the outcome, though the case had remained in the background while he battled his own physical problems.

Another blow in a brutal season

For Musiala, the ruling lands on top of an already punishing spell in his young career.

His 2025 campaign was torn apart at the Club World Cup, where he suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle — the most serious injury setback of his professional life so far. That blow sidelined him for months and raised questions about how quickly he could rediscover his explosive rhythm in Bayern’s midfield.

He finally returned to action in January, only to feel another jolt in March with a fresh ankle scare. Just as he was trying to re-establish himself on the pitch, trouble has arrived off it.

Now, as Bayern look to shape their next era around one of Europe’s brightest talents, Musiala faces a different kind of scrutiny — not about his touch, vision, or goals, but about judgement, responsibility, and how he responds when the spotlight follows him beyond the stadium floodlights.
